How to adjust windshield washer jets

Windshield washer jets are an important part of your vehicle's safety. Windshield washers spray water onto the windshield so it can be cleaned. Over time, these windshield washer jets will need to be adjusted if they start to overshoot the windshield or spray washer fluid over the vehicle.

In other cases, the windshield washer jets may fail or stop working. Adjusting the washer jet will restore the correct spray pattern for your vehicle.

This article will tell you how easy it is to adjust the windshield washer nozzles with your own hands.

Part 1 of 1: Windshield Washer Adjustment

Required material

  • Needle

  • AttentionA: You will also need a friend or assistant to help you check the windshield washer spray pattern.

Step 1. Check the shape of the windshield washer jet.. The first step is to check the operation of the windshield washer system. If the unit is spraying washer fluid, it is good. If the washing machine does not spray, you need to follow these steps.

Once it is confirmed that the nozzles are spraying liquid, take the time to note the spray pattern. It may be easier to have someone else spray the washer nozzles while you watch the spray from outside the car.

Step 2. Adjust the washer spray pattern.. Then find the spray nozzle. On most vehicles, the nozzle is located at the top of the hood, next to the windshield.

In other vehicles, the nozzles may be located under the edge of the hood near the windshield.

Step 3: Adjust the attachments with a needle.. Take a closer look at the injectors. You will see two holes located on the body of the nozzle. Washer fluid flows out of these holes.

Using a needle, gently try to insert it into the nozzle hole. The needle should go in without problems and you don't have to force it. With the needle inserted, carefully move the nozzle in the direction you want to adjust it. You don't have to move it far.

Repeat this process for all washer jets that need to be adjusted.

Step 4: Check the washer nozzle. Have an assistant wash the windshield washers again. Check the spray and make sure it hits the windshield in the correct position.

You may need to adjust the washer nozzles several times to get the desired result.

Adjusting your own windshield washer jets can be an easy solution to restore washer function. Doing this process at regular intervals will help keep you from messing up your entire car whenever you use your windshield washer jets.
