How to jump over a 2-wire AC pressure switch

By the end of this article, you will be able to quickly and easily connect a two-wire pressure switch.

The A/C pressure switch is a delicate component that can be costly if it starts to malfunction. When this happens, you need to know how to jump, otherwise you will have to spend a lot of money on repairs.

We'll take a closer look at the entire process below.

A low pressure switch jump is done to test the circuit. What is the purpose of the low pressure switch? The engine A/C pressure switch blocks the relay from energizing the A/C compressor. One thing to keep in mind: never switch the low pressure switch while the engine is running. If this step is followed, you may damage the compressor.

Step 1: Start the engine and set the settings to maximum to switch the low pressure switch.

Step 2: Disconnect the bike switch connector, then connect the two female ports to the detachable connector.

Step 3: Check the compressor to make sure it is working.

There is only one reason for the low pressure switch to trip.

The compressor is shut down by a low pressure switch to prevent damage to the compressor due to oil starvation. Low refrigerant charge means no oil circulation. In other words, you can temporarily toggle the low pressure switch in the vehicle to activate the A/C compressor clutch ONLY for testing purposes.

However, if you keep it plugged in for too long while trying to recharge the system, you run the risk of significantly, even seriously, damaging the compressor. Its AC low pressure switch can damage your compressor by throwing debris all over your AC system. Repairs can cost you a lot of money. Think twice before switching to a low pressure switch to add refrigerant to your car's air conditioner. This is not the way!

Air conditioning compressors cannot compress liquids.

The heat causes the refrigerant to boil and change from liquid to gas. It passes through the evaporator in the dashboard.

The gas exits the evaporator and either enters the accumulator in the throttle tube system or directly to the compressor. It could also be in the expansion valve system, depending on the type of system in your vehicle.

Despite the presence of a battery, a small amount of liquid reaches the compressor.

This must be done precisely so that the liquid refrigerant can supply lubricating oil to the compressor. The problem occurs when you switch the low pressure switch for more than a few seconds because you are running the compressor without oil. This will destroy him.

If the air conditioning compressor clutch does not work, how to add refrigerant?

When you turn off the air conditioning system in a car, the pressure difference between the high and low sides eventually equalizes.

If the compressor does not work, how to equalize the pressure? Simple. As the vehicle warms up, the throttle tube or expansion valve continues to supply fluid to the evaporator. This liquid condenses to a gas and enters the compressor and then exits through any compressor reed valves that are open at that time.

When the compressor is off, there is always a gap between the high and low sides.

As a result, you can add refrigerant to the system even if the compressor clutch is not engaged.

It just takes a lot longer. Heat the refrigerant bottle in a basin of warm water to speed up the process. This will cause the liquid to boil and increase pressure. Once the water has cooled down, replace it with warmer water. Repeat this method until the gauge on your refill kit reads over 25 psi. The low pressure switch should then allow the A/C compressor to turn on. (1)

Is it possible to bypass the AC high pressure switch?

Yes it is possible.

But first, why are you doing this? Please make sure you've temporarily bypassed the correct issue before fixing it. After bypassing the AC high pressure switch, problems can occur that can be caused by a failed condenser fan motor that is running.

So how do you bypass the A/C high pressure switch?

1. Locate the A/C pressure sensor and disconnect the negative battery cables;

2. Start by removing the switches - switch electrical plug and high pressure switch;

3. Install a new switch and reinstall the electrical connector switch removed in the second step and reconnect the negative battery cable; And

4. Check AC.
