How to transport ski equipment?
The winter season has begun and so is the ski season. Transporting equipment in the car is quite inconvenient and, most importantly, dangerous. Even if we find ourselves on a slope from time to time, it is worth considering installing a roof rack with rails for efficient equipment transportation.
The choice of roof racks is wide, but most of us carry skis or a board in the middle of the car - most often loosely in the trunk or on the back of the rear seat. This is not a secure solution. Many car models have special cases or ski tunnels, but they do not provide XNUMX% safety and efficiency when it comes to maintaining safety. Even if we rarely ski, it is worth having equipment that allows you to carry skis or a board on the roof.
We have two options: a closed box or a handle in the form of a paw holding skis. The type of luggage rack for our car depends on two cross beams attached to the roof or railing. Some models have gutters while others have beams attached to rails. For owners of larger vehicles, ski holders are the perfect solution. The most well-known type of handles are oblong jaws with rubber pads. As a result, the surface of the skis is protected from scratches. The bindings can carry two to six pairs of skis, depending on their price and our requirements,” says Grzegorz Biesok, Auto-Boss accessories sales manager.
Boxes, also known as chests, are a very good solution. Unfortunately, they are more expensive, but the most recommended due to their versatility. In winter, they allow you to transport all items of ski equipment. We will also be using them in the summer to transport holiday luggage.
– Remember that the clasp of the skis always faces in the direction of travel – this means that the air resistance is lower during the journey, which will lead to less fuel consumption and less noise. What's more, with this type of installation, the mounting brackets will not loosen while driving. It is also very important that the ski equipment does not protrude beyond the contours of the car, adds Grzegorz Biesok.
Let's not risk our lives and passengers and we will thoroughly prepare for the winter trip. Even if we occasionally drive up a slope, we can equip our car with a roof rack that can safely transport equipment. Otherwise, the consequences can be catastrophic. You should also be aware of the speed limit when driving a car with a roof rack.
