The problem of winter heating of internal combustion engines has been solved by the world community for many decades: autonomous heaters, electric heaters, warm garages and many other solutions have been created. However, they all cost money, and a lot of it. While most Russians are forced to operate a car for 200-300 thousand rubles, it is at least pointless to discuss installing a "comfort amplifier" in it for 100 rubles. However, there are also cheap solutions. And there are some free ones too!

The famous hood heaters and cardboard boxes in the radiator grill are the very attempt to warm up the car quickly and “with little blood”. The idea, in general, is correct - to isolate the engine compartment from the influx of cold air - but somewhat unfinished. Outdated and not meeting modern industry achievements.

Any connoisseur of hiking, marathon and "survivalist" knows about the "rescue blanket" or "space blanket": a rectangle of plastic sheet, coated on both sides with a thin layer of aluminum coating. Initially, it was invented just for space purposes - the Americans from NASA in the sixties came up with such a “blanket” to save equipment from temperature effects.

A little later, the International Association of Marathon Runners handed out a “cape” to runners after the finish line, struggling with colds. Weightless, practically worthless and incredibly compact when folded, the "rescue blanket" has become a must-have for hikers, fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts. It will be useful for automotive needs.

Firstly, such a compact, but functional little thing is certainly worthy of a few square centimeters of the “glove box”. Just in case. But most importantly, the “space blanket” allows you to significantly reduce the engine warm-up time in winter: just cover the engine compartment with a sheet so that the internal combustion engine reaches operating temperature much faster.

The heat generated by the motor during operation is reflected from the aluminum layer, the plastic does not burn or tear, and cold air does not enter. The blanket is able to warm a person for several hours, what can we say about the engine.

Despite its thinness, the material of the "cosmic blanket" is incredibly difficult to tear, burn through or deform. With proper care, it can be used for months, just occasionally wiping with a rag. However, this is not at all necessary, because a new one costs only 100 rubles. Perhaps this is the cheapest way to significantly speed up the warm-up of the engine in cold weather.
