How to prepare the car for the summer?

Summer heat, dust and traffic jams take their toll on your car. Follow these tips to ensure your vehicle is in optimal condition:

  • Conditioners: Have a qualified person check the air conditioner. Newer models have cabin filters that purify the air entering the heating and air conditioning system. See the vehicle owner's manual for the replacement interval.

  • Antifreeze/cooling system: The biggest cause of summer breakdowns is overheating. The level, condition and concentration of the coolant should be checked and flushed periodically as directed in the manual.

  • grease: Change the oil and oil filter as directed in the manual (every 5,000-10,000 miles) more frequently if you do frequent short walks, long trips with lots of luggage, or towing a trailer. Have a certified mechanic change the oil and filter in your vehicle to rule out further problems with your vehicle.

  • Engine performance: Change your vehicle's other filters (air, fuel, PCV, etc.) as recommended and more frequently in dusty conditions. Engine problems (hard start, rough idle, stalling, power loss, etc.) are fixed with AvtoTachki. Problems with your car are exacerbated by extreme cold or hot weather.

  • Wipers: A dirty windshield causes eye fatigue and may be a safety hazard. Replace worn blades and make sure you have enough windshield washer solvent.

  • Tires: Change tires every 5,000-10,000 miles. Check your tire pressure once a week while they are cold for the most accurate measurement. Don't forget to also check the spare tire and make sure the jack is in good condition. Have AvtoTachki check your tires for tread life, uneven wear and gouges. Check sidewalls for cuts and nicks. Alignment may be required if the tread wear is uneven or if your vehicle pulls to one side.

  • brakes: Brakes should be checked as recommended in your manual, or sooner if you notice pulsing, sticking, noise, or longer stopping distances. Minor brake problems should be fixed immediately to ensure continued vehicle safety. Have an experienced mechanic replace the brakes on your vehicle if necessary to avoid serious problems in the future.

  • Battery: Batteries can fail at any time of the year. The only accurate way to detect a dead battery is to use professional equipment, so enlist AvtoTachki's support to check your battery and cables before any trip.
