How to connect a 5-pin rocker switch (Manual)

At first glance, it may seem that connecting a 5-pin toggle switch is difficult. Well don't worry, you can do it quickly and easily. Working with automotive wiring, I've installed 5-pin switches on many cars with no problems, and today I'm going to help you do just that.

Short Review: Connecting a 5-pin toggle switch to an LED downlight is very easy. Start by preparing the positive and negative jumpers. Then determine the type of 5-pin switch. Go ahead and connect the ground wires between the negative terminal of your car's 12V battery and the two negative terminals. After that, connect the hot wires to the positive terminal of the battery, and then to the positive contacts. Go ahead and connect the other pin to the LED product using a different wire. Finally, connect the T-wire to the internal control panel and check the connection.

Light switch concept

The 5-pin light strip switch is rectangular in shape and blends seamlessly into the interior of many vehicles. Thus, it is one of the most popular switches in the automotive industry.

Their (5-pin rocker switches) functionality is simple; they control the light bar by pressing the top of the switch - this action turns on the light bar. To turn it off, simply press the bottom of the switch.

The 5-pin rocker switches are illuminated to match well with the car's factory interior lighting. This feature also contributes to their popularity. The light will be on on the rocker bar light switch if it is turned on. It will notify you that the rocker switch is turning on the lightbar that is connected to it.

Manufacture of connecting cables of the light panel

To connect a 5-pin rocker switch, you need to make a ground and positive jumper. Once you've finished making the patch cables, you can run the rest of the lightbar switch wiring. That's all.

Follow the procedure below to make the lightbar connection cables:

  1. Use a cutting tool to cut the ground wires to the correct length. And make sure you remove at least ½ inch of the wire to get the insulation off.
  2. Now strip about ½ inch of insulation from both ends of the wire with a wire stripper. The stripped terminal is required for making connections.
  3. Twist the stripped wire terminals at a right angle. You can use pliers for this.
  4. Repeat the same procedure for the positive/hot wire.

How to connect a light with a 5-pin rocker switch

On your 5-pin rocker switch, the first 2 top pins are for ground. Two of the remaining 3-pin pins will be for the power wires, one of which is for the lower LED on the switch, and the connection is connected to the dash lighting circuit. The latter will be terminated (goes to the relay unit - the power is off). Pay attention to this.

Step 1 Prepare the ground and positive connection cables.

You will need to use (connect) the ground setup wires to the two pins on the rocker switch and then to the ground source - the negative terminal of the power supply (battery).

Step 2: Connect the positive/hot wire to the pins of the 5 pin rocker switch.

Connect the hot jumper wires to the switch contacts and connect them to the hot or positive battery terminal.

Step 3: Connect an accessory or LED contact to the relay.

Take a jumper wire and then connect it to the auxiliary contact and then connect it to the relay box. The relay box goes to the accessories in the car dashboard.

Step 4: Connect the tee to the wire that controls the interior lighting.

Interior lighting covers the speedometer and temperature control. After you have found the wire that controls the interior lighting, connect the tee to it. The T-piece is inserted into the wire without cutting it in half. Make sure you purchase the correct size T-tap.

Now take the wire coming from the LED pin and insert it into the tee connector.

Step 5: testing

Turn on the parking light or headlights. The instrument lights inside your vehicle will turn on along with the lower switch LED.

Turn on the auxiliary lighting using the controls on the dashboard, as well as the instrument indicators. That's all.

Convert to 5-pin from another

Interestingly, you can also connect a 3-pin switch to a 5-pin switch. First, find out what your 3 wires are doing.

Aurora wiring harnesses are as follows:

  • Black wire is ground or minus
  • Red wire positive or hot
  • And then the blue wire is powered by lighting products (accessories)

However, if you are using a non-Aurora wire harness type, you will need to specify a wire that represents power, ground, and one that supplies power to the LED lighting unit. (1)
