How to connect off-road lights without a relay (9-step guide)

When using relays to connect road lights, sparks can occur when voltage and current levels are higher than required. After switching on the relay, sparks can be seen. Also, the relay has a slower response time, which can be a problem, so it's best to connect road lights without a relay. However, most people struggle with how to disable road lights without a relay.

If you want to learn in detail how to connect off-road lights without a relay, read this article and you will be able to quickly connect your lights.

Connecting off-road lights without a relay

You cannot directly connect off-road lights without a relay. A converter block that regulates the voltage level down and reserves is required to maximize the brightness of the LEDs. LEDs should never be used at high currents as this can generate heat and melt wires. It is preferable to use them at low voltage so that they do not overheat. Follow this 9 step guide to wire off-road lights without a relay:

1. The best place

Choose the perfect place to mount your off-road light. The optimal location allows for wiring and lighting. If you don't have this area, you'll have to make do with zip ties or screws. Be creative with this section, as a great installation location will go a long way.

2. Drill a hole

Once you have chosen the best location for your off-road lights, drill some holes of the right size in the right place. Mark the spot before drilling. This way you know you are drilling in the right place. Be careful not to hit anything that could hurt.

3. Install brackets for off-road lights.

After you have finished drilling, you can install the lightweight brackets. Make sure you have all the required screws. Secure it with the included screws. You can make changes and modify them as you wish. However, do not tighten it too much, as you will need to change it later.

4. Disconnect the cables from the battery.

Now you should find the power side of the battery. Disconnect the cable from the car battery before installing the switch. This cannot be done while the battery is running as it may result in electric shock. You must ensure that there are no injuries during the procedure. (1)

5. Determine the best power source

Once you've secured your car battery, it's time to decide where you'll be attaching the switch. The switch should be installed in an easily accessible place. Once you've determined where the button should go, it's time to connect it to a power source. You must ensure that the power supply can handle the same voltage and power as your off-road lights.

6. Connect the switch to a power source.

It is desirable to have a quick and efficient installation procedure; so you can use the remote control switch. Connect the switch to the power source once you have determined the best power supply for your fixtures. Choose a resistor that can handle the high amount of current flowing through it. If you don't, there's a good chance it will damage your light strips. Before choosing the right resistor, do some voltage and current calculations in your control circuit.

7. Install the switch

When you have found the correct resistor, you can install the switch. Make sure the switch and control circuit are turned off to avoid errors. Use copper wire to connect the switch and resistor. When connecting the wire, place both ends in the correct position and solder them together. Then connect the opposite side of the switch to the power supply. (2)

8. Connect the power supply to the off-road light.

It is best to connect the power supply to the off-road lightbars. Then connect the remaining parts with bundles once you have connected all the parts. Connect the negative battery terminal to the cable from your car. Then, from your vehicle, connect the other wire to the positive battery terminal.

9. Recheck

Once you have completed the previous steps, you will need to point the off-road light installed in your vehicle in the correct direction. Then tighten the installed hardware. Double check everything once you have connected all the cables and connected them correctly. So you can see how to connect off-road lights without a relay in these steps. Follow these instructions exactly and make sure there are no errors. Once you've done that, your car's headlights will be ready.
