How to use wood carving chisels?

Carving chisels can be used in two ways: by hand or with a hammer.
Wood carving chisels with straight cutting edges
Chisels with a straight cutting edge (Shovel #1 or Beveled Chisel #2) are less commonly used in wood carving (compared to chisels) because their straight edges tend to cut into the piece of wood and do not have the necessary smoothness. for cutting irregular shapes and curves. However, straight-edged wood carving chisels are often used to define straight lines and borders in relief carving.
Step 1 - Hold the chisel correctly The chisel should be held as if you were holding a dagger, but below the hilt so that part of the blade is covered by your hand.
	Step 2 - Align the cutting edge If you've marked your design (highly recommended), align the cutting edge of the chisel with your markings. Raise or lower the angle of the chisel depending on whether you are indenting a boundary or removing material.
	Step 3 - Apply Force Tap the end of the chisel with a hammer to make a notch in the workpiece. (For very complex detailing, you can simply manipulate the chisel by hand).

	Step 3 - Apply Force The force that causes the notch to cut into your workpiece can be applied either by hammering or simply by hand and, depending on the angle of your tool, will remove a long strip or small chips of material.
Separation Tools
	Dividing tools ("V" notches) are used to create channels and corner recesses. They are often used in edging and lettering.
