How to get a BMW dealer certificate

If you are an automotive mechanic looking to improve and gain the skills and certifications that BMW dealers, other service centers and automotive technician jobs are looking for, you may want to consider becoming a BMW Dealer Certification. BMW has teamed up with the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) to develop a program aimed at diagnosing and repairing BMW vehicles. There are currently two easy paths to certification: FASTTRACK and STEP.

BMW FASTTRACK/STEP

FastTrack UTI is a 12-week course focused on current BMW models such as the X1, X3, X5, X6, 3, 5, 6 and 7 series vehicles, as well as the Z4. The STEP program lasts 20 weeks and is slightly more intense. However, BMW will pay for your training if you choose the STEP option.

What will you learn

By attending FASTTRACK/STEP, you will earn BMW Level IV Technician status and receive up to seven BMW FASTTRACK/STEPory certifications.

You will receive additional training:

  • New engine technology
  • Basics of the new engine
  • How to take the main dimensions and completely disassemble and assemble a BMW engine
  • Engine electronics
  • Master advanced wheel balancing equipment
  • Learn BMW Approved Brake Maintenance Practices
  • How to diagnose and repair several types of BMW engine technologies, including high pressure direct injection, turbocharging and Valvetronic
  • How to work with BMW technical systems
  • How to work with new generation engines such as N20, N55, N63 and turbocharging systems
  • Learn about the BMW Technical Information System (TIS) and the BMW diagnostic and information systems currently used in service centers and dealerships.
  • How to use the latest engine management systems
  • How to work with BMW Body Electronics * Review BMW approved procedures for car battery and electronic systems, maintenance of charging and starting systems.
  • Learn power management and vehicle access systems (vehicle immobilizers) and CAN BUS systems.
  • Experience BMW Chassis Dynamics and Undercar Technology
  • Perform alignment, rack removal and installation, and chassis maintenance procedures.

Practical experience

BMW FASTTRACK/STEP provides its students with a lot of hands-on experience. While participating in the 12-week or 20-week program, you will receive training in vehicle maintenance as well as safety and multi-point inspections. Your instructors will focus on teaching and preparing for ASE certification throughout your stay at BMW FASTTRACK/STEP.

Is driving school the right choice for me?

BMW FASTTRACK/STEP certification ensures you stay up to date with all the latest BMW technology. And don't forget that if you choose the 20-week BMW STEP program, BMW will pay for your tuition. While it takes time, you can also consider auto mechanic school as an investment in yourself, as your auto mechanic salary is likely to increase once you get your BMW FASTTRACK/STEP certifications.

Competition in the automotive industry can be fierce, and finding a job as a technician is becoming increasingly difficult. By attending auto mechanic school, you can only help increase your auto mechanic salary.
