How to Get a Buick Dealer Certificate

An auto mechanic school can be a smart option if you want to expand your skill set, make yourself more attractive to employers, and increase your auto mechanic salary. Below we will discuss how you can become certified to work with Buick vehicles at Buick dealerships, other service centers and automotive technician jobs.

Universal Technical Institute (UTI) and GM

The Universal Technical Institute (UTI) has partnered with General Motors to develop a 12-week training program. The good news is that by enrolling in the program, you will receive training not only for Buicks, but for all General Motors vehicles. This includes the Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands. The program consists of 60 online course credits and 11 course credits taught by a GM Certified Instructor. You will also be required to complete 45 additional credits of the online continuing education course, making your learning experience as diverse as possible.

As part of the GM Technician Career Training program, you will receive training in the following topics:

  • Interpret and understand vehicle diagnostics, electrical diagnostics, vehicle networks, secondary restraints, and body controls.
  • GM electrical and electronic systems
  • brakes
  • Chassis controls, steering and suspension systems, high-tech steering and vehicle stability systems
  • General Motors braking systems, including diagnostics and maintenance of advanced braking systems and controls.
  • 6.6L Duramax™ diesel engine used in modern GM trucks.
  • HVAC
  • Maintenance and multi-point inspections of vehicles
  • Maintenance and diagnostics of GM ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems
  • Engine Repair which includes the full range of current GM precision measurements and repair procedures.
  • Diagnostics of engine performance and emission systems of General Motors vehicles using GM's global diagnostic system.

General Motors Fleet Technical Training

If you currently work at a GM dealership or your company maintains a fleet of GM vehicles, you are eligible to receive Buick Certified Training through the General Motors Technical Training Program. GM offers several fleet technical training courses, each based on your fleet and the needs of your dealership.

GM Fleet Technical Training offers technical assistance and hands-on training as well as instructor-led classes. The cost is $215 per student per day. Some of the classes offered are:

  • GM engine performance
  • Basic GM brakes and ABS
  • Introduction to the Duramax 6600 Diesel Engine
  • HVAC
  • Additional inflatable restraint systems
  • Technology 2 Familiarization
  • GM Service Information
  • Anti-lock brakes and tire pressure monitoring
  • Overview of electrical systems and diagnostic principles

General Motors also offers the GM Service Technical College (STC), designed to help dealerships and businesses get additional technical training for their GM vehicles. If you currently work at a GM dealership and would like to be certified as a Buick dealer, you may want to consider registering with the STC.

If you want to become a more in-demand mechanic and earn a higher salary, you can invest in an auto mechanic school. As auto mechanic jobs become harder to come by, you'll want to get an edge on the competition. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.

If you are already a certified mechanic and would like to work with AvtoTachki, please apply online for the opportunity to become a mobile mechanic.
