How to change antifreeze for a Honda Fit

For the correct and long-term operation of the Honda Fit engine, regular replacement of technical fluids is required. The procedure for replacing antifreeze is prescribed in the manufacturer's operating instructions.

This information must be observed, as over time, the liquid loses its protective properties. Excessive operation can lead to problems, which in turn lead to costly repairs.

Replacing antifreeze Honda Fit

There is nothing complicated in replacing the coolant, the main thing is to carefully follow all the recommendations. Prepare a tool, rags, a container for draining, a new liquid, which we will then fill in.

All work must be carried out on a cooled engine, since during operation the coolant heats up to 90 degrees. This can lead to burns and thermal injury.

Draining the coolant

In order to independently drain the antifreeze on the Honda Fit, you must first provide access to the drain plugs and the tap, which are located in the bottom of the car. After that, on the already cooled down car, you need to turn on the ignition, turn on the maximum air flow.

Next, turn off the engine and go straight to the drain:

1. unscrew and remove the radiator filler cap (Fig. 1);
2. we find the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator and unscrew it, having previously placed a container for draining the used antifreeze (Fig. 2), the engine protection does not need to be removed, a special hole has been made for this operation;
3. to completely drain the liquid from the expansion tank, it must be removed. To do this, unscrew the protective cap and the air filter tube (Fig. 3);
4. now we have full access to the fixing screw, which must be unscrewed. Next, remove the tank itself by sliding it up to release it from the latch (Fig. 4);
5. for a complete replacement, it is also necessary to drain the engine cooling circuit, for this you need to unscrew the drain screw;
   
   in the first generation Honda Fit / Jazz, it is located in front of the cylinder block (Fig. 5)
6. in the second generation Honda Fit / Jazz, it is located at the rear of the engine (Fig. 6)

We have almost completed the operation of draining the coolant, it remains to wait for its complete drain. After that, it is necessary to check the cooling system and fluid for deposits, and also pay attention to the color of the drained antifreeze.

If there are deposits in the system or the fluid is rusty, flush the system. If visually everything is in order, proceed to the filling of new coolant.

Pouring new antifreeze

To fill in new coolant, you need to replace the tank, fix it and connect the air pipe with the protection that was removed earlier. We also tighten the drain bolts, if necessary, change the sealing washers to new ones.

Next, you need to carefully carry out the operation of pouring antifreeze into the Honda Fit to avoid the formation of air pockets:

1. fill in coolant to the top of the radiator neck (Fig. 1);
2. we install the cap on the neck, but do not turn it off, start the engine for 30 seconds, and then turn it off;
3. check the fluid, top up if necessary;
4. using a funnel, pour liquid into the expansion tank up to the maximum mark (Fig. 2);
5. install the plugs on the radiator and tank, tighten until it stops;
6. we start the engine again, but now we warm it up to operating temperature until the radiator fan turns on several times;
7. check the radiator level and, if necessary, fill it to the top of the neck;
8. start the car again and maintain the speed of 20 for 1500 seconds;
9. we wrap the cork completely, until it stops;
10. once again we check that the antifreeze in the expansion tank is at the MAX mark, top up if necessary.

That's all, so we made the right replacement for antifreeze with a Honda Fit. It remains only to wipe the places in the engine compartment with a rag if coolant accidentally gets into them.

Replacement frequency, how much and what kind of fluid is needed

According to the regulations and operating instructions, in a Honda Fit car, you must use the original Honda Coolant Type 2 antifreeze. Having the number OL999-9001, it is already diluted and ready for use. The liquid has a blue color (blue.

The replacement interval on a new car from the factory is 10 years or 200 km. Subsequent replacements are recommended every 000 km.
