How to refuel?

Anyone who drives often, once a week or more often, stops at a gas station to refuel their car. Although this may seem like a commonplace (most drivers do it automatically), the following tips can help you save money.

1. Find the cheapest gas station

In any country, retail fuel prices from major suppliers vary within the minimum limits - we often talk about 1-2 cents. However, there are still gas stations where the price is even better - more than 10 cents per litre.

If you travel outside your country, use the online guides to find the cheapest gas stations on your route and optimize your trip by staying at these places.

2. Select the correct type of fuel

Whether your car runs on gasoline or diesel is clear from the start. In addition, most gas stations do not allow you to refuel with the wrong fuel (the diesel gun is thicker than the gasoline counterpart). But if you are traveling in a rented car, it is good to look under the tank cover or in the documents so that you do not have problems on the road.

95 octane or higher?

This is the main question when choosing the right type of fuel. Sophisticated gasoline engines require Super Plus gasoline, but most models are also satisfied with the 95 octane rating. Premium fuel from different manufacturers is characterized by a higher degree of purity and special additives. Both of these help to improve combustion, and suppliers are talking about a longer engine life (due to less carbon deposits), more power and less consumption.

So far, no independent institute has proved significant advantages in economical consumption or increased power, but in any case, the engine will not suffer if it receives higher-quality fuel. Everyone must decide whether in his case there is a reason to use more expensive fuel.

3. On which side is the tank cap?

This is also an easy task if you travel by your own car and often refuel. At the subconscious level, you remember which side of the machine the speaker should be on so that you don’t have to turn around.

A little trick in case you are driving a rented car. In most vehicles, the arrow on the fuel gauge points toward the side of the tank.

In addition, you need to know how to open the tank cap. Usually it connects to the central locking system and opens with a light push. For older models, you must unlock it with the ignition key. Some cars also have a small lever next to the driver's seat, on the left side.

4. In summer, do not fill a full tank, in winter you can

Gasoline expands in the heat. If you fill the tank to the brim, the fuel will not expand where, which can cause trouble during the trip. In winter, it is advisable to leave a small margin in case you stay in traffic or if you have to drive through areas without nearby gas stations.

In addition to these factors, in winter there is a greater likelihood of air condensation in the gas tank. For this reason, before you put the car even at night, you should replenish the tank, if possible.

5. Features of the gun

Thus, refueling can be done without pulling the trigger. The column continues to supply gas until the tank is full. Then the lever automatically turns off and refueling is completed.

6. Refueling before loading

This advice has not so much functional as psychological effect. Allow yourself to prepare your car before you go on vacation. In addition to refueling, check oil, tire and antifreeze levels.
