How to Renew Your Vehicle Registration in Ohio

There are a number of things Ohio citizens will have to do to keep the laws. When you move to this state for the first time, you will need to make sure you register your vehicle with the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). After that, you will have to renew it every year to avoid a fine. Luckily, you won't have to keep track of this yourself because Ohio will send you a reminder notification. Once you have received this notification, here is what you will need to do:

Internet access for renewal

Access to the Internet to renew registration has a certain advantage. If you would like to pay for your renewal online, you will need to go to Ohio's online renewal page. Once you are there, you will need to enter the following information:

  • The last four digits of your social security number
  • Your license plate
  • Paying the fees you owe

A call to renew your registration

The next method that you can use when trying to renew your registration is to call by phone. Here is what you will need to do to renew your phone registration:

  • Call 866-868-0006
  • Enter your social security number
  • Enter your credit or debit card number to pay the fees you owe

Renew personally

If you would like to renew your registration in person, you will need to contact the Deputy Registrar's office. Here is what you will need to bring with you:

  • Renewal notice you received in the mail
  • Proof that you have insurance
  • Ownership of the vehicle
  • Registration Information and Registration Authorization Form
  • Payment of fees that are due

Ohio Renewal Fees

Here are the fees you will have to pay to renew your registration in Ohio:

  • A passenger car costs $34.50.
  • The motorcycle costs $28.50.
  • Light trucks cost $49.50.
