Brake discs are one of those parts that are regularly subjected to increased load during the operation of the car. In such a situation, every responsible driver faces a logical and quite logical question: what needs to be done so that the brake discs of your favorite car wear out at least a little slower.
What affects the service life of brake discs?
Why, in some cases, brake discs serve 200 thousand kilometers, while in others they cannot cover 50 thousand? It should be noted that the degree of wear is influenced by a large number of factors, direct and indirect. Driving style affects the rims the most. So if the driver drives aggressively, they will wear out at an incredible rate.
In addition, constant pressing of the foot on the brake from time to time and for no reason negatively affects the life of the discs. The same can be said about improper handling of the car, for example, stopping (unnecessarily) in puddles. In this situation, the discs receive heatstroke due to the collision of the hot part with cold water. There are also many indirect causes and reasons for quickly killing drives, and in most cases the driver is the main culprit.
How can you extend their life?
Knowing the root cause of the problem, it shouldn't be so difficult to answer this question even without outside help. Obviously, if the rims of your beloved car wear out in such a way that you often have to change them, you must first change your own driving style. A sudden stop should not be a common practice, so you need to keep a close eye on what is happening on the road.
In addition, there is no need to stop and park after you have stopped abruptly to catch your breath, so to speak. It is recommended to drive at least one more kilometer before parking to allow the discs to cool down gradually and properly. If you just get out of the car with hot discs, they will experience the same effect as if you stop in a puddle.
Of course, it is not advisable to park your car in a puddle or on uneven ground. The latter has a very negative effect not only on the brake disc, but also on the parking brake. Finally, regular maintenance must not be forgotten. It is good to check the pads and discs every 2-3 months, for which you do not need to remove the tires.
