How to check spark plugs at the stand, where to check, flow chart. How to clean spark plugs

If the device is securely fastened, the o-ring is good, but the pressure in the chamber decreases - this is another sign of a poor-quality product. The problem, of course, may lie in the O-ring, so keep a couple of pieces with you for replacement.

Vehicle operation is a responsible process. A competent attitude to the details allows you to avoid sudden breakdowns of the machine or the creation of emergency situations. One of the important elements will be discussed in the article.

Where to check spark plugs

Unlike multimeters or pistols, a special stand is the most accurate means of checking for malfunctions of car ignition devices. The design is a chamber that reproduces the operating conditions of an internal combustion engine. Pressure is applied to the tester, after which a spark is fired corresponding to the number of revolutions per minute. Most car repair shops in Moscow have such devices, although it is better to specifically ask employees about the availability of equipment. The glow plug on such units is not studied, because. power supply is used. It will not be difficult to independently check the spark plugs at the stand: it is not difficult to handle the device if you follow the instructions in the technological map.

How to work

The minimum required for diagnostics: a stand, a charged 12V battery and a candle. Power cables and adapters for several thread options are usually supplied with the device.

Step by step guide

Consider a detailed technological map of working with the device:

  • Connect the test stand to the 12V battery.
  • Take a candle, install the o-ring on the thread.
  • Select an adapter for the product to be tested and insert it into the connector.
  • Screw the spark plug in tighter so that the pressure does not decrease.
  • Connect the high voltage wire.
  • Set the pressure: there are corresponding buttons on the dashboard. If convenient, use a hand pump. The best test option is 10 bar.
  • Set the number of engine revolutions: check the work at high rates, say - at 6500 rpm. / min., and idling at 1000 rpm. /min
  • Start sparking and look at the candle without touching it at the moment the spark is applied. Check if there is current between the center and ground electrodes.
  • Turn off the device, disconnect the cables, unscrew the spark plug.
Ideally, a stable spark occurs only between the electrodes. It should not pass to the internal or external insulator when tested at any atmosphere and speed.

If you observe the following spark irregularities, then the product is of poor quality or has failed:

  • It is visible throughout the area of the insulator, and not between the central and ground electrodes. If the current flows throughout the chamber, this indicates a poor quality of the product.
  • Absent at all.
  • Passes to the outer part of the insulator, i.e. electricity is noticeable in the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe candle, which is not screwed into the connector.

If the device is securely fastened, the o-ring is good, but the pressure in the chamber decreases - this is another sign of a poor-quality product. The problem, of course, may lie in the O-ring, so keep a couple of pieces with you for replacement.

How to clean candles on a stand

Spark testers are not designed to be cleaned. For such a procedure, a different design is required, where the abrasive mixture is poured, which is fed to the electrodes. Cleaning is done very quickly, but the condition of the electrodes should be checked regularly after applying the cleaning agent. The mixture is poured in for 5 seconds, no more, then a cleansing blow is made, and then diagnosed visually.
