A post hole digger is a hand tool designed to facilitate the difficult and exhausting task of digging holes.
It works by plunging into the ground with the blades open until they pierce the ground and are buried below the surface. By repeating this movement several times, the soil begins to loosen, allowing the blades to sink deeper into the ground with each thrust.
The handles are then moved to close the tool, bringing the blades around the loosened soil.
The blades clamp the soil inside so that it can be removed from the hole by lifting the entire tool up.
The process is repeated until the hole is deep enough to install the rack.
