How does a radiusometer work?
The radius gauge works as a concave and convex reference device. It is used to clarify how closely the radius in question (on the workpiece) compares to the finely machined radii on the gauge.
The light source should be placed behind the object being measured to help identify any gaps between surfaces.
The finely machined sensor radius is pressed tightly against an object with a concave or convex radius. Two different measurement processes are described below.
Concave Radius Testing
The radius gauge can be used to check the size of a concave radius on an existing object.
Here, the outer convex radius of the gauge is used to define the inner concave radius of the sheet metal.
Convex Radius Check | |
The radius gauge can be used to check the size of a convex radius on an existing object.
Here, the inner concave radius of the gauge is used to determine the outer convex radius of the hinge. Both measurements correspond to the same measurement indicated on the instrument. |
