How the XNUMX-degree view of a car works

The XNUMX-degree view system is designed to monitor and view the entire area around the vehicle while driving in difficult areas or maneuvering, such as parking. Such auxiliary systems are equipped with a set of sensors and software tools that allow you to receive the necessary information, process it and inform the driver about a potential emergency.

Purpose and functions of the circular view

The all-round vision system refers to the active safety of the vehicle. Its main task is to collect visual information around the car with its subsequent display in the form of a circular panorama on a multimedia screen. This allows the driver to better navigate and fully control the situation around the car in difficult driving conditions or at the time of parking. This significantly reduces the risk of accidents.

When the automatic transmission selector is shifted to reverse (R) mode, the all-round view is automatically activated. It can also be turned on forcibly using the button.

For the first time such a system was installed in 2007 on Nissan cars, under the name AVM, which stands for Around View Monitor... As a rule, the XNUMX-degree view function is present in premium cars. However, now it can be installed in any car, having previously purchased a ready-made kit with all sensors and a control unit.

Among the main functions are the following:

  • the ability to accurately maneuver in a confined space or off-road. In front of the driver, a picture around the car is displayed in the smallest detail, including the most “unseen” sections of the road;
  • the ability to record motion (optional).

Elements and principle of operation of the system

The all-round visibility system includes:

  • 4-5 cameras with wide-angle view located on the sides, back and front of the car;
  • sensors that receive signals about obstacles around the car;
  • multimedia screen (standard system or installed separately);
  • Control block.

Modern surround view systems, purchased separately, can be equipped with a video recorder. The installation of this element can be hidden or standard, which will provide additional protection for the vehicle, provided it is parked in unsecured places.

The work is based on the collection of visual information by sensors (cameras) installed:

  • in the rear-view mirrors (right and left, respectively);
  • in the radiator grille;
  • on the trunk lid or tailgate.

Depending on the model and manufacturer of the system, there may be either 4 cameras or 5 video recorders.

Due to the fact that cameras provide panoramic shooting, the field of view is full 360 °. The view modes that are displayed on the multimedia screen are selected by the driver and can be as follows:

  • parking - turns on automatically when the gearbox selector is moved to the “R” position (the speed should be no more than 10-20 km / h);
  • panoramic - images from all installed video cameras are displayed on the screen at the same time (top view);
  • manual - selected independently by the driver and depends on the desired viewing location in a particular situation.

Advantages and disadvantages

Vehicles equipped with an all-round visibility system have a number of advantages:

  • the ability to constantly monitor the situation around the car both while driving on the road and at the time of parking;
  • a comprehensive view and no blind spots, thanks to the panoramic image, which is broadcast by the corresponding cameras;
  • the ability to record the resulting video, use the system as a video recorder.

Modern cars have received a lot of all kinds of auxiliary systems that significantly increase comfort and safety. Additional possibilities of all-round view of the car allow the driver to easily receive various information about what is happening around on the road or while parking, as well as to record the resulting image. If earlier such systems were available only in expensive cars, today anyone can install them.
