How to arrange furniture in a rectangular room? 3 tricks for arranging furniture

Rectangular rooms are often difficult to arrange precisely because of their characteristic shape. Narrow and long rooms often seem impractical and inconvenient to use - but is it really so? We offer how to arrange furniture in a rectangular room so that it becomes functional and cozy!

How to arrange furniture in a rectangular room? Divide the room into zones!

Rectangular, narrow rooms require a completely different arrangement of furniture and accessories than square-shaped rooms. Although there is a large selection of functional furniture on the market, not all of them will be really practical in such a room. So what needs to be done in order not to deprive them of their usefulness?

Before you decide to buy furniture, carefully plan what and where to put it. Their installation should not be random. A good solution would be to divide the room into so-called functional areas, i.e. internal layout so as to avoid the accumulation of furniture in one place.

For example: if it is a living room with a dining room, divide the room into two parts. One is better to use for relaxation - put a sofa, a small coffee table and a TV there, and the other - under a small dining table and chairs. In this way, you decorate one room as if it were two smaller rooms, which gives you free space, and the solution itself is practical and functional.

Which chairs to choose to free up space? Bet on bar stools

In order to arrange furniture in a rectangular room, choose those that have the ability to "retract" - this mainly applies to chairs. These seats, such as those surrounding a table in a dining room or living room, often take up a lot of space and limit space, while optically reducing the room, as well as making it difficult to clean the floor around.

If you want to save space, opt for low bar stools! Not only can these little bar stools be stylish, but - with the right height - they can be hidden under a table and save a lot of space. Although they were once associated only with bar counters, they are now a fashionable addition to any interior.

This type of chair will also look good in the kitchen and dining room! Due to the fact that this piece of furniture can have a backrest, it can be placed at the table and next to the kitchen island. There are classic models on the market, decorated in glamour, loft or Scandinavian style… there is something for everyone.

How to arrange furniture in a small room? Parallel, along the short walls

In order for the room to look its best and give the impression of being more spacious than it really is, it is worth paying attention to the arrangement of furniture in relation to the walls. This means that certain pieces of equipment should be placed against the longer wall and others against the shorter one. Long pieces of furniture (for example, a multi-seat sofa or a massive chest of drawers) are best not placed against the longer wall of a rectangular room. This will unfavorably emphasize the size and shape of the room, which means it will make it optically smaller.

Therefore, a much better solution would be to choose a small sofa that you place next to a shorter wall of the room or at the very end of a longer one, and then place a small round coffee table next to it. Also avoid placing furniture in the center of the room or along the entire length of the walls; this will give the room lightness and will not create the impression of a cramped tunnel.

However, if the rectangular room is going to be a bedroom, put in a large closet that can be placed against a long wall. It would be a good idea to choose a model with a built-in mirror that will optically enlarge the interior. Position your bed away from windows and heaters for comfort while you sleep.

Rectangular room - how to visually enlarge it?

If you want your room to feel spacious and appear larger than it actually is, there are a few more simple steps you can take. They ensure that the room is not overloaded and its layout is no longer a problem. What are we talking about?

  • color – walls, furniture, accessories. If you want to visually get additional space, choose light-colored walls that will optically enlarge the room. Curtains and blinds, in turn, should be thin, also as bright as possible. The furniture can be in different colors, depending on your preferences, so that it stands out.
  • World - it is it that is responsible for the perception of peace. Artificial is just as important as natural, sunny. Yellow, warm light can visually enlarge a room by placing lamps, lamps, or sconces in poorly lit areas of the room.
  • Room style - in narrow rooms, interior styles with a dominant minimalist approach, such as Scandinavian or modern styles, are much better suited. Ornate, glamorous interiors can make a room feel smaller and cramped with cluttered accessories.
  • Additionally - if you are a lover of ornaments, choose round ones, not angular ones; this shape looks much better in smaller rooms. Avoid long rugs and heavy vases that only take up space. A much better solution would be mirrors, which, due to the reflection of the opposite wall, will visually “enlarge” the room.

As you can see, a rectangular room can be just as functional as a traditional square one. To organize it in the best possible way, take a look at our offer and choose the best furniture and accessories for you!
