How to tighten the steering rack yourself on a VAZ 2110

Somehow, during the time of VAZ 2110 ownership, I had to face the problem of knocking the steering rack, which appeared mainly on a broken dirt road or on rubble. The knocking begins in the area of the steering wheel and this crushing is clearly heard, and it gives off a vibration on the steering wheel itself. This problem happens quite often, since with our Russian roads the rail breaks very quickly. To eliminate the resulting knocks, it is necessary to slightly tighten the steering with a special key.

Since at the moment I no longer have a VAZ 2110, and I am driving Kalina now, I did an example of this procedure on this particular car, but the process itself is completely similar to the ten, even the key is needed the same. The only thing that could be different is access to the nut, which needs to be tightened a little. In this case, I had to unscrew the battery, and then remove the platform to install it. In general, the entire list of tools is given below, which will be needed:

  1. 10 wrench or ratchet head
  2. Socket head 13 with a knob and extension
  3. Key for tightening the steering rack VAZ 2110

Now about the order of work. We unscrew the fastening of the battery terminals:

accumulator

We unscrew the fastening nuts of the battery itself, and remove it:

Now you need to get rid of the very platform on which the battery is installed:

Now that all this is removed, you can try to stick your hand to the steering rack, and find a nut under the bottom (to the touch). But first you need to remove the rubber plug from there:

This stub looks like this:

And the nut itself, or rather its location, is shown clearly in the photo below:

It is worth noting the fact that when you tighten the rail, keep in mind that the nut is in an inverted state, so you need to turn it in the appropriate direction. First, make at least half a turn, perhaps even less, and try to see if the knock has disappeared. If everything is fine and when you turn the steering wheel at a speed (check no more than 40 km / h) the steering wheel does not bite, then everything is in order!

Personally, in my experience, after 1/4 of a turn, the knocking completely stopped and after completing the procedure I drove more than 2110 km in a VAZ 20, and it did not appear again!
