The system recognizes critical situations and changes the steering behavior based on data from the ESP sensors informing about the vehicle's stability. If the actual steering wheel position does not match the measured values, the function increases or decreases the steering effort. This results in changing the steering angle set by the driver and adjusting it to the desired optimal value.
The power steering optimization system is a solution that can only be implemented with additional software. The vehicle must be equipped with ESP and electric power steering.
The noticeable effect of the system is faster and more precise steering movements, helping to maintain a safe trajectory of the car. In most situations where there is a risk of skidding, it is enough to intervene in the position of the steering wheel to prevent a collision. This feature is also useful in case of sudden braking, such as on an icy road on one side. In this case, even if the vehicle is equipped with ABS, the driver must slightly oppose the steering wheel to keep the vehicle stable.
The Power Steering Optimization System is a cheaper solution than the Active Steering system used, for example, in the BMW 6 Series. In the Active Steering System, the system adjusts the steering angle itself without the driver knowing.
