How to care for automotive lighting?

How to care for automotive lighting? Taking care of the condition of our car, we rarely think about the headlights, which are as important as any other car equipment. The more visibility we have, the more we can see and the more time we have to react.

How to care for automotive lighting? When we notice that the headlights give too little light, we check their shades and reflectors. They can not be soiled or scratched, because then they certainly will not properly illuminate the road.

Do not forget to take care of the lighting, as this will extend the life of the appliances. If we have headlights with wipers, let's take care of the condition of the feathers. However, if we do not have such a mechanism, it is best to remove the dirt with a soft cloth or sponge with plenty of water. All xenon headlights are equipped with washers at the factory. Therefore, if we supply xenon without washers, we may have problems during vehicle inspection.

What causes lamp damage?

“Headlights wear out under the influence of mechanical damage, such as stones, gravel, sand. Over time, they also become dirty and the reflector mirror peels off. It is affected by: dust, steam and heat. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to clean the inside of the headlight. In newer vehicles, the material from which the headlights are made tarnishes quickly when exposed to sunlight. Let's look at reflectors - they quickly become unusable under the influence of, for example. when using a high power lamp or without a UV filter,” says Marek Godziska, Technical Director of Auto-Boss.

When bulbs or xenon headlights wear out, the filaments change color from white to purplish blue. When replacing lamps, remember that they must be branded, the same power as the standard lamps, otherwise they may damage the shades and reflectors.

How to properly set up the lighting?

“If we look closely, we can see that most cars have the wrong headlights. Even the best lighting does not shine effectively if it is not positioned correctly. The lighting setting must be adjusted to suit the vehicle load. Do not trust automatic correctors, as they often fail. We must check their location at least twice a year, especially when we move over bumps. This activity is assisted by diagnosticians during periodic checks, or ASO stations during warranty and post-warranty checks,” says Marek Godziska, Technical Director of Auto-Boss.

When replacing lamps, carefully replace all rubber seals to prevent moisture from getting inside the lamp.
