How to care for a wooden floor? Explore reliable ways

Proper care of a wooden floor can significantly prolong its “life” and emphasize a beautiful, noble look. It will prevent clouding, unevenness, blackening of the joints between boards or panels, as well as abrasion of its surface. In order for it to perform its function for as long as possible and be a stylish addition to the interior, it is extremely important to use the right floor fluid, as well as the right equipment for caring for it. So, how do you clean a wood floor to make it look beautiful? Find out in our article!

What liquid for a floor to choose?

Wood does not like moisture - this is its characteristic feature, which almost everyone knows about. This does not mean, however, that wooden floors cannot be washed - on the contrary, every floor requires regular cleaning, because only then will it be able to maintain its aesthetic appearance and perform its functions well for a long time. All you need to do is make sure that the mop is thoroughly sealed off, and choose a floor cleaner that will not only dissolve the dirt effectively, but also be safe for the specific type of dirt.

Professional floor cleaner for wooden boards or panels.

Although floorboards are sometimes confused with planks, there is a big difference between the two types of flooring. The former are definitely thicker (they range from 14 to even 30 mm, the panels are below 10 mm). If you are renting an apartment and at first glance you cannot determine if there are wooden boards or panels under your feet, then do not be discouraged. Despite the differences between these types of floor coverings, the same liquid is used for washing floors. It should have the phrase "panel and wood cleaner" in its name to make sure it's safe. An example of such a product is Sidolux Expert.

The best liquid for cleaning parquet or mosaics

Parquet is one of the most traditional types of wooden floors. It is made from small slats, often in the shape of a French herringbone. Like panels and floor boards, the rail is made of solid wood: oak, beech or ash. Therefore, in their case, you can use a liquid for washing wooden floors. A G&G product called Parkiet would be a very good choice.

Mosaic is also made from planks, even smaller than those intended for laying parquet. Due to the fact that the exact same wood is used, any wood flooring liquid, such as the G&G product mentioned, will also work well for cleaning the mosaic.

How to vacuum and clean a wooden floor? Equipment selection

It is not only professional floor cleaning liquid that is important. The right equipment that you will use to clean the panels or parquet is just as important. It is important to note that the wrong one can scratch the delicate structure of the wood or lead to moisture ingress and thereby damage the floor. So what to choose?

Which mop to choose for a wooden floor?

At the very beginning, we emphasize: you should not use a steam mop on wooden floors - however, there are exceptions to this. While this is a great device that does not require the purchase of detergents, it can also damage wood - water vapor can permanently damage your floor.

This problem is especially true for floors covered with wax or oil, as well as for "bare" boards, popular in old buildings. Such floors should be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth or a well-wrung hand mop.

So which floors can be steam washed? All are lacquered floors, unless otherwise specified by their manufacturer. Due to the fact that during fixing it does not penetrate into the wood structure, it creates an invisible and at the same time very dense coating that is resistant to moisture and high temperatures. Varnish can cover any type of floor: panels, boards or parquet, so you should find out if this is the case with what is lined in the apartment.

What is the best vacuum cleaner for wood floors?

Not everyone knows that even the choice of a vacuum cleaner is of great importance in the case of wooden floors. Poorly matched brushes can be too hard or sharp for the floor, especially for cheaper, scratch-prone panels. Therefore, the best choice is a vacuum cleaner equipped with many interchangeable nozzles, including those designed for the type of floor that you have. A universal solution (i.e. for all types of wood floors) is a brush with a characteristic narrow, longitudinal shape and dense, soft bristles, commonly known as “for parquet and panels”.

Therefore, it doesn't matter if you choose a traditional horizontal vacuum cleaner, a modern upright model or a cleaning robot - the main thing is that it is equipped with special brushes with soft bristles. Combined with the right wood flooring liquid, it will allow you to enjoy beautiful floors for years to come!
