How to reduce vehicle tax legally?

A personal car in use is convenient, prestigious, and for many it is simply necessary. However, each of us knows that a car is also a big expense. You can list for a long time: fuel, consumables, repairs, fines, depreciation, parking fees. There is another item of expenditure - the transport tax.

On our website Vodi.su, we have already talked about how the transport tax is calculated. Let us briefly recall: at the moment, the size of the transport tax is affected by engine power. Each region has its own rate depending on the amount of horsepower. So, a resident of Moscow pays for each hp. 12 rubles each, if the power is below 100 hp. If the power is 150 hp, then 35 rubles will have to be paid for each power. Well, if you have a supercar with a capacity of more than 250 hp, you will have to pay 150 rubles per horsepower.

There is one more point. There are approved all-Russian rates for each horsepower:

  • up to 100 hp - 2,5 years;
  • up to 150 hp - 3,5 years;
  • over 250 hp - 15 p.

However, since the tax is regional, each subject of the Federation has the right to increase it, but no more than 10 times. For example, in St. Petersburg for a small car up to 100 hp. you have to pay not 12 p. for strength, and already all 24 rubles. That is, a tax on a car with a capacity of 100 hp. will not be 1200 rubles a year as in Moscow, but 2400.

In addition, owners of expensive (from three million rubles) and luxury cars pay tax according to a special scheme that takes into account the age and price of the car, and the sums per year are very rather big.

This raises the question - how to reduce the transport tax? Moreover, this issue is more of a concern, firstly, to the owners of expensive and powerful cars, and secondly, to entrepreneurs and legal entities.

Legal ways to reduce vehicle tax

To reduce the transport tax, you must carefully read the text of the law itself. It has a huge list of categories of citizens who are completely exempt from paying tax:

  • veterans and heroes of the Second World War, veterans and heroes of military operations;
  • disabled people of the first and second groups;
  • parents or caregivers of children with disabilities;
  • parents with many children;
  • Chernobyl victims and those who were exposed to radiation due to accidents or nuclear weapons testing.

In addition, if the power of your car is below 70 hp, then you are exempt from tax.

Hence the conclusion - if there are people in your family that fall under one of the categories, re-register a car for them, and enter yourself into the OSAGO policy, although after that the OSAGO will cost you more. It can also be beneficial for legal entities to re-register a car to an individual and use it on a rental basis.

The second way is to register a car in a region where the tax rate is lower. For example, residents of St. Petersburg will benefit from registering a car for their relative from Moscow or any other region - in Penza, the tax rate is only 8 rubles per horsepower.

Another way that some experts suggest is to limit engine power. This can be done both by reverse chip tuning and by making structural changes to the engine. (Such services will cost a lot, so you still need to decide on such a step so that the tuning pays off). In addition, the vehicle must pass a series of tests and instrumental tests at various stands in the traffic police, and only after that a conclusion will be issued, it will be necessary to make changes to the TCP and STS.

You can also meet such an option - deregistration of a car and driving on transits. Recall that transit numbers are given for 20 days, and the fee for obtaining them is 200 rubles.

Well, the most radical way is to sell the car and buy a new one with an engine power of up to 70 hp. It is difficult, of course, to imagine the owner of a powerful Mercedes Gelandewagen, who will transfer to a budget Chinese hatchback.

Also, do not forget that the actual number of months of using the vehicle in a year affects the amount of tax. That is, if OSAGO is issued for six months, then the tax will be half as much. In addition, such a method as a delay in the moment of registration of the vehicle is also used - you bought a car, but do not use it. This is beneficial primarily to legal entities: if the vehicle is used extremely rarely, then from time to time transit numbers can be issued for it.

There are no other legal ways to reduce the transport tax.
