How to Install Pegboard Without Drilling

Installing a perforated panel may seem easy, but it's quite a complex process. Precision is required at each stage to correctly separate the command strips. Likewise, the stem and spacers need to be flush so as not to end up with a slanted perforated panel that can't hold accessories well.

As a handyman who has done this before, I will walk you through installing the panel using the command line.

In general, you can hang a perforated board as follows:

  • Inspection of the board to eliminate defects
  • Install plank and spacers
  • Install the command strips on the perforated panel
  • Use a level to set up a straight wall
  • Clean the wall with alcohol - isopropyl
  • Hang a perforated board

I'll go into more detail below.

How to install Pegboard without screws

What do you need

Purchase the following tools and materials:

  • piece of perforated panel
  • Four screws
  • Two spacers (should go under the board)
  • Bar to sit on top of a perforated board
  • Control strips
  • Screwdriver
  • Level of

Pegboard Installation Step by Step Guide

Step 1: Inspect the Perforated Panel

Be sure to check the board for defects, especially at the corners. Do this on either side to eliminate the best side for wall mounting.

Step 2: Install the plank on the perforated panel

Attach the strap on the back. Install it a few slots down from the edges. This way you won't have to install the crossbar on the holes that will be used to hang buckets or any other item.

To attach the crossbar, take the screws and insert them into the hole in front of the crossbar. Make sure the plank is securely attached to the perforated board. Repeat the process on the other side of the plank.

Step 3: Install spacers on the bottom of the board

The spacers will make the board flush with the wall. Otherwise, the board will hang on the wall carelessly or at an angle. Since you need something neat, make sure you install the spacers like this:

Determine the best place to install the gaskets. I prefer closer to the edges. Thus, push the gaskets through the back of the bottom of the panel and screw the gasket cover through the front side until it fits snugly. Install another spacer on the other end of the perforated panel, as you did with the plank.

Hanging a Pegboard with Command Strips

After installing the rod and spacers on the top and bottom sides respectively, double check that they are flush so that you don't end up with an awkwardly dangling panel on the wall.

Well, it's time to fix the board. In this guide, I will be using the command strips. Follow the instructions below to properly hang your perforated board:

Step 4: Get-Command Strips

You can use 3M command strips or any other strips available to you. On the box with the command strip, write the maximum weight it can support without falling apart. In this way, you will avoid excessive load on the panel.

The command bars I use hold a maximum load of 12lbs or 5.4kg and contain 12 pairs of command bars.

Step 5: Separate Command Strips

Command bars are usually perforated. Pull them out and separate them by rocking - folding them back and forth. They tear easily so you don't have to worry about it.

You will need six sets. So, tear off 12 pieces of Velcro. Then take any two Velcro pieces, line them up and stick them together to make six sets.

Functions. Squeeze the command strips until you hear them click. That's how you know they stuck together.

Step 6: Use a level to set the straightness before installing the Pegboard

Use the blue bars to mark your levels.

Step 7: Clean the wall with isopropyl or any other suitable alcohol.

Pour isopropyl onto a rag and wipe the wall. Oils, dirt and other debris tend to prevent proper fastening.

Step 8: Install Command Strips on Pegboard

Install the six pieces of command slats onto the slat (which you just installed on the perforated panel).

To do this, peel off the strip on one side of the command strip and press it against the panel. Use sufficient pressure to press the command bars against the bar. The rule is simple, the harder you press, the stronger the grip. The estimated time to press the command strips on the panel is 30 seconds. The process will definitely take some time as you need to install all six parts of the command line.

Functions. Strips can be installed on the spacers for better fixation. Because the command strips are a little longer, you can use scissors to split them in two, remove the strip, and install the command strip on each spacer on the back of the panel.

Step 9: Hang the Perforated Panel

Now that you have the command bars mounted on the rod and spacers, it's time to secure them to the wall.

So, pull the backing or strips out of the command slats to reveal the other side of the command slats.

Then carefully lift the perforated board and press it against the marked spot on the wall. Gently but firmly press down on the bar at the top and the spacer at the bottom. After pressing the perforated board for some time, pull the board out of the wall, making sure that the Velcro sticks to the wall - the tabs of the Velcro should come apart and the other half will remain on the perforated panel. Lay the board down and keep pressing on the Velcro for about 45 seconds. Now click on the other set of Velcro that is left on the perforated panel.

Wait an hour for the Velcro to stick to the appropriate surfaces - wall and perforated board.

Step 10: Complete the Pegboard Installation

Unscrew the bar from the panel and align it with the Velcro on the wall. Press it until you hear the click of the strips. Keep pushing the bar back and forth until you're happy.

Now lift the perforated panel and place it on the crossbar, screwing it in the same way as you did before. Tighten it with a screwdriver.

Now you have the perforated panel installed and you can add all your favorite accessories. Again, when adding accessories, keep in mind how much weight the strips can comfortably support.
