How to install transformable glass

Nothing beats a convertible with the top down on a sunny day. Unfortunately, Mother Nature doesn't always play well. Sometimes it replaces sunlight with rain, hail and snow. It's times like this that your convertible top needs to be in top condition.

One of the main problems with convertible roofs is that the rear window often comes off. But fear not, you can attach it yourself with double sided tape and a little patience.

Part 1 of 1. Attach the glass to the folding top

Necessary materials

  • Hair dryer or heat gun
  • Double sided foam tape
  • Grafting tape (optional)

Step 1: Attach the canvas to the glass. Temporarily secure the top with a strong tape, such as Grafters branded tape.

Step 2: Slightly open the top. Open the top slightly, but not all the way.

Then support it with something like a piece of wood or a small empty box between the front edge of the top and the top edge of the windshield frame.

Step 3: Find where the glass came off. Find the part of the top where the glass has come off the canvas.

This will be where the glass and top meet. The glass becomes loose due to time and exposure to the elements.

Step 4: Clean matting surfaces with alcohol..

Step 5: Close Convertible Top. Completely close the roof. Then check where the canvas rests on the glass as it is carefully stretched.

Step 6: Apply double sided tape. Stick a strip of double-sided foam tape to the edge of the window where needed.

Cut the tape to length with scissors and thread it between the top and the glass.

Step 7: Attach the Canvas to the Ribbon. Bring the glued area of the canvas to the edge of the tape.

Then press the canvas firmly against the glass.

Run your thumb across the canvas towards you, removing any bumps as you go.

Step 8: Apply heat to the joint. Use a hair dryer or heat gun set to low power to heat up the joint. This creates a deeper attachment.

Now that you've secured your top, you can enjoy your convertible whatever the weather. So the next time Mother Nature calls you, you won't have to worry.
