Car services and other service stations are well aware of this behavioral aspect, they will gladly help with the evacuation, and then they will repair it “for cheap”. They will write a list of spare parts, pile old worn-out iron in the trunk - often from another car altogether - and joyfully escort them to the cashier. And after all, the car will go, everything will fall into place. Only now, often the automatic transmission itself, as well as all other components and assemblies, was not dismantled. After all, for repairs, all that was required was to open the hood.

The trick in three out of four cases is that we have learned how to change the oil in the engine, but we usually forget about the “box”. The same applies to filters, of which there may even be two in a box. But it rarely comes to them, dear ones, most often the “repair” process is limited to pulling out the probe, which, of course, will be absolutely dry. There is no oil in the automatic transmission, therefore, there is no pressure, and that's a jerk.

And, in fact, repair: a funnel is inserted into the neck of the dipstick, where the cheapest ATF is poured - gear oil. After the selector is carefully switched to each gear, oil is added again and switched again. And so - several times until the box stops pulling. In fact, the capacity of the transmission is from 8 to 12 liters, which is why, by the way, many drivers do not change the oil. This is, frankly, expensive. Hence the problem.

Old transmissions, classic automatics, especially when it comes to four or five-speed "dinosaurs", are incredibly reliable, and it's not easy to break them. That's why they usually cost 20-30 thousand rubles - nobody really needs them. Such "boxes" easily survive the carelessness of the owners and, after adding the required amount of "transmission", continue to work. That's the whole repair, which, with the knowledge, ATF canisters and funnels can be done right on the side of the road. Well, or go to the service station and pay the “full duty” to the cashier.
