It is always a good idea to read the instruction manual for the tool, as it can provide specific advice. However, Wonkee Donkee has provided some general guidelines for caring for a brick rake.
Most brick rakes are made from aluminum because it is lightweight and low maintenance.
The best way to clean aluminum tools is to use the mildest cleaner.
Use a soft bristle brush to remove all dirt and dust from the tool.
To clean a brick rake, wipe the tool with a hot damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap. Repeat until clean and then dry thoroughly.
Aluminum should not rust as its surface is coated with aluminum oxide which forms a barrier between the metal (aluminum) and any water/oxygen it comes into contact with.
However, aluminum oxide can build up and create a dull and milky finish on aluminum products; it is a form of corrosion. However, it is not necessary to remove the aluminum oxide deposits as this will actually protect the tool from further corrosion.
If the wheels become stiff, lubricate them with a small amount of tool oil after cleaning.
The strong tool pin can often get lost, and replacement pins are not usually sold separately. However, you can insert a regular steel or stone nail which will work just as well.
The brick rake has thick aluminum wheels that are designed to withstand being dragged over uneven surfaces, but will wear out with extended use. The tool is relatively inexpensive, so individual parts cannot be replaced; instead, it is advisable to buy a new brick rake.
Store your brick rake in a clean toolbox, preferably with separate sections so you can keep your brick rake away from other tools, preventing any damage.
