What does the regeneration of car headlights and lamps look like? Can you do it yourself?

In case of damage to any internal element in the headlight, although the manufacturer does not provide for repair, the appropriate specialist will definitely handle it. Already a few years after buying a car, the lamps may lose their original appearance. Of course, this doesn't happen overnight, so it's hard to see the lower light intensity at first glance. However, over time, the regeneration of automotive lamps seems inevitable.

The good news is that you can easily find specialists for whom repairing car headlights is not a big deal. However, it is up to you to decide how to dismantle the elements, which can also help you choose the right workshop. After all, you can send lamps anywhere. However, is it always necessary to restore car headlights in a professional workshop?

Car headlight repair - what kind of repair is it?

This work can be divided into two stages: replacement of damaged elements and regeneration of worn ones that can be replaced. During the operation of the car in the lamps, the following parts may be damaged:

  • beam alignment mechanism;
  • reflectors;
  • cables and contactors;
  • lenses.

However, not always ON RIGHTS headlights require such intervention in the nodes and they can only be improved. For example, reflectors, if they are not melted, are subjected to grinding and applying a reflective layer. Regeneration also includes:

  • brightening the surface of the lampshade;
  • lamp polishing;
  •  maintenance of mechanical components;
  • thorough cleaning;
  • applying a new layer of glue.

Regeneration of car lamps - is it possible to do it yourself?

To achieve a really good effect and maintain the tightness of the case, we do not recommend disassembling the headlights yourself. Why? Firstly, without proper skills and the use of special tools, it is very easy to damage the elements of the lamp. One of the basic steps you can take on your own is to regenerate the lamps with special polishes. How to do it?

Self-healing xenon, LED and halogen lamps

It happens that car owners give their lamps to regeneration companies because they themselves did not cope with it. As a result, specialists must not only regenerate them, but also reverse the effects received by the client. When it comes to headlight polishing, the price is not high. You can do it yourself, but you have to be very careful and with your head.

First of all, secure the car body around it well. In the first step, wash and degrease the lamps and let them dry. Another issue is matting, which is carried out with paper with a gradation of 800 to 3000 and with the participation of a large amount of water. Remember not to make circular motions! The lamps after grinding should be polished and it is good to use a polishing machine with a speed control function (maximum 1000 rpm!). Headlight repair almost finished! The next step is finishing, which involves the application of a protective layer.

Self-regeneration of headlight glasses, of course, is not too complicated, but it requires attention, patience and accuracy.

Xenon recovery in a specialized company

If you give your lamps to a specialist and find a good specialist, you will definitely be satisfied with the effect. Restoration of xenons by a professional makes them look like salon ones. This gives an effect that is difficult to achieve at home. Headlight repair includes:

  • cleaning the outer case;
  • heating the binder to disassemble the lamp components;
  • updating the reflector (grinding, cleaning, applying a new mirror coating);
  • lampshade polishing with the possibility of grinding;
  • gluing elements;
  • checking the correct operation.

Regeneration of xenon, of course, is associated with costs, which consist of several variables. If you can't handle removing the lamps, this operation usually costs around 10 euros apiece. How much does a headlight restoration cost? Usually it costs about 15 euros, of course, depending on the amount of work done.

Check what to do if the headlights have already been regenerated

Although the appearance of beautiful headlights is very pleasant for the driver, admiring them is not the final stage of their repair. To be sure, you still need to go to the diagnostic station. For what? The regeneration of the headlights in the car could affect the direction of the light, so they need to be adjusted.

This service usually does not take much time and is basically a trifle for the diagnostician. After this action, you can enjoy the new quality of your lamps confidently and without any obstacles. However, the effect is not permanent. We will have to reckon with the fact that in a few years the regeneration of xenon lamps will again be required.

Regeneration and polishing of automotive lamps - why is it worth it?

Over time, the headlights dim, which affects the quality of the emitted light. The layer inside the lamp is also damaged. For this reason, it is necessary to regenerate reflectors and lamps - the price depends on their model and condition. To ensure safety while driving and get good visibility (especially when driving at night), it is worth taking care of the headlights in the car.
