Step 1 - Choose Bolt HandlesFirst, select the appropriate size bolt grips for the bolt being removed. To do this, measure the head of the bolt being removed. The grip size is usually engraved on the side or printed on the case or packaging, if available. | |
Step 2 - Choose a square driveIf you want to remove with little force, or if the bolt is difficult to remove, use a square drive. This will allow you to use a manual or pneumatic ratchet and a pneumatic or electric impact wrench. Attach the bolt handle to the drive square. | |
Step 3 – Choose Hex FlatsIf you're using hex flats, place the bolt handle on the bolt you want to remove, making sure it's in a comfortable position and the handle doesn't move at all. | |
Step 4 - Vise Pliers or Adjustable WrenchIf you are using vise pliers or an adjustable wrench, place the jaws firmly around the hex surfaces of the handle once it is on the bolt. | |

Step 7 - Use a Hand RatchetIf you are using a hand ratchet, simply place it on the bolt and turn counterclockwise. | |
Step 8 - Use an adjustable wrench or vise pliers.Using an adjustable wrench or pliers, grasp the bolt handles and turn them counterclockwise. The teeth of the handles should cut into the bolt. Continue turning the bolt counterclockwise until it starts to pop out. | |
Step 9 - Remove the BoltA damaged or broken bolt can now be completely removed. |
