How to change the battery in the key fob

Keyrings make it easier to get into the transport. With this device, opening doors and trunk or tailgate is easier than ever. Some of them are separate from the key, while others have an integrated key. Others are called "smart keys" where you don't even have to take the fob out of your pocket to open the doors, trunk, or even start the car. The battery is only for the key fob for remote control functions. A weak or dead battery does not prevent you from starting the car, but only from using the key fob itself. Replacing the battery is easy and can be found at any auto parts store, supermarket, or pharmacy.

Part 1 of 1: Replacing the Battery

Necessary materials

  • Replacing the battery in the key fob
  • Small flat head screwdriver

Step 1: Open the keychain. Generally, all you need to open a keychain is a strong fingernail. If that doesn't work, use a small flat head screwdriver to gently pry it open.

To avoid breaking the key fob body, carefully pry it from several places around the key fob.

  • AttentionA: For some all-in-one key fob/key combinations, you must first separate the remote from the key, as shown in the figure below. The battery replacement procedure is the same.

Step 2. Identify the battery. Now that you have opened the key fob, if you have not yet purchased a replacement battery, you can now see the battery type/number printed on the battery and purchase it.

Pay attention to the position of the battery + and -, as some key fobs may not have markings inside.

Step 3: Replace the battery. Insert the battery in the correct position.

Gently snap the key fob body into place, making sure it is fully latched.

Try all the buttons on the remote to make sure it works.

By noticing the signs that your key fob gives you, it will be easy to replace the battery and restore its performance. Make sure a quality replacement battery is replaced correctly, or simply have an experienced mechanic, such as from AvtoTachki, inspect and replace the key fob battery for you.
