If you want a good sound system, you need a good set of speakers. Speakers are essentially air pistons that move back and forth to create different sound frequencies. Alternating current is supplied to the voice coil of the speaker from an external amplifier. The voice coil acts like an electromagnet that interacts with a fixed magnet at the bottom of the speaker. Since the voice coil is attached to the speaker cone, this magnetic interaction causes the cone to move back and forth.

When the speaker cone is punctured, the speaker no longer works properly. Damage to the speaker cone usually occurs as a result of being hit by a foreign object. Finding out that your favorite speakers have a hole in them can be very discouraging, but fear not, there is a solution!

Part 1 of 1: Speaker Repair

Necessary materials

  • coffee filter
  • Glue (Elmer and Gorilla Glue)
  • Brush
  • Plate
  • Scissors

Step 1: Mix the glue. Pour glue onto a plate by mixing one part glue with three parts water.

Step 2: Fill the crack with glue. Use a brush to apply glue and fill in the crack.

Do this on both the front and back of the speaker, letting the glue dry completely. Continue applying layers of adhesive until the crack is completely filled.

Step 3: Add coffee filter paper to the crack.. Tear off a piece of coffee paper about half an inch larger than the crack.

Place it over the crack and use a brush to apply a layer of glue, let the glue dry.

  • AttentionA: If you are repairing a high power device such as a subwoofer, you can add a second layer of coffee filter paper.

Step 4: Paint the speaker. Apply a thin coat of paint to the speaker or color with a permanent marker.

That's all! Instead of spending money on a new speaker, you could fix the old one with common household items. Now it's time to celebrate by plugging in a speaker and playing some music.
