How to Replace a Lost or Stolen Vehicle in Oklahoma

The moment you get ownership of the car, it would be wise to keep it in a safe place and not in your car. However, over time, very often the title is lost or even stolen. Now suppose you want to sell your car or transfer ownership? Unfortunately, this is not possible without your title. Here's the good news: you can apply for a duplicate car if your car is stolen or lost.

In Oklahoma, this process can be done through the Oklahoma Tax Commission's Division of Motor Vehicles. The process is relatively quick and easy, and can be done by mail or in person. Here's a look at the steps.

By mail

  • If you decide that filing by mail is most convenient for you, you will need to download, print, and complete the Duplicate Title Application (Form 701-7). If you don't have a printer at home, you can get this form from your local tag agency.

  • Mail it to the address provided on the form. Please be aware that you will need copies of your ID and registration included in the package.

  • There is a $11 fee for a duplicate name plus a $1.50 processing fee. This must be in the form of a check that can be paid to the Oklahoma Income Tax Commission.

Personally

  • You will need to complete Form 701-7 and then take it to any tag agency. Be sure to take your ID and registration with you.

  • There is a $11 fee for in-person visits.
