How to replace the cabin filter on Opel Astra N

Cabin filter Opel Astra H is used to clean the air entering the car interior through the heating or air conditioning system. Untimely replacement reduces air flow, begins to let in odors and dust particles. Replacement should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations or when signs of filter wear appear.

Stages of replacing the filter element Opel Astra N

Compared to most other cars, changing the cabin air filter on an Opel Astra N is relatively easy. Special preparation for this operation is not required. All you need is a new filter element and a few keys from the set.

How to replace the cabin filter on Opel Astra N

There is no point in talking about the benefits of the salon, especially when it comes to coal. Therefore, it is not surprising that self-installation of filters in cars has become commonplace. This is a fairly simple routine maintenance procedure, there is nothing complicated about it.

According to the regulations, the cabin filter is scheduled to be replaced every 15 km, that is, every scheduled maintenance. However, depending on the operating conditions of the car, the replacement period can be reduced to 000-8 thousand kilometers. The more often you change the filter in the cabin, the cleaner the air will be and the better the air conditioner or heater will work.

The third generation was produced between 2004 and 2007, as well as the first restyling between 2006 and 2011.

Where is

The Opel Astra N cabin filter is located behind the glove compartment shelf, which prevents access to it. To remove this obstacle, you need to open the glove box and follow the instructions below.

The filter element makes the ride comfortable, so there is no need to neglect its replacement. Much less dust will accumulate in the cabin. If you use carbon filtration, the air quality in the car interior will even be noticeably better.

Removing and installing a new filter element

Replacing the cabin filter with an Opel Astra N is a fairly simple and routine periodic maintenance procedure. There is nothing complicated about this, so it is very simple to make a replacement with your own hands.

To do this, follow the instructions described below, which describe in detail all the nuances of this operation:

  1. We moved the front passenger seat all the way back for more comfortable work and opened the glove box for other activities (fig. 2).How to replace the cabin filter on Opel Astra N
  2. Having opened the glove compartment, unscrew the four screws under the Torx T20 and carefully begin to remove it (Fig. 2).How to replace the cabin filter on Opel Astra N
  3. Having slightly pulled it out of the seat, we turn off the power, which reaches the backlight bulb located on the left side of the box (Fig. 3).How to replace the cabin filter on Opel Astra N
  4. So we got to the place behind the glove compartment, where you need to open the housing door (plug), behind which is the filter element. Fastened with three self-tapping screws, under the head 5,5 mm. We take the head and turn it off. When removing the cover, please note that it is additionally secured with plastic latches from the bottom and top (Fig. 4).How to replace the cabin filter on Opel Astra N
  5. Now the cabin filter is already visible, it remains to remove it and install a new one, but you can first vacuum the seat with a thin nozzle of a vacuum cleaner (Fig. 5).How to replace the cabin filter on Opel Astra N
  6. After replacement, it remains to install the cover in place and check. We also install the glove compartment in its place and assemble in the reverse order.

When installing, pay attention to the arrows indicated on the side of the filter element. They indicate the correct installation position. How to install is written below.

When removing the filter, as a rule, a large amount of debris accumulates on the mat. It is worth vacuuming from the inside and the body of the stove - the dimensions of the slot for the filter make it quite easy to work with a narrow vacuum cleaner nozzle.

Which side to install

In addition to actually replacing the air filter element in the cabin, it is important to install it on the right side. There is a simple notation for this:

  • Only one arrow (no inscription) - indicates the direction of air flow.
  • The arrow and the inscription UP indicate the top edge of the filter.
  • The arrow and the inscription AIR FLOW indicate the direction of the air flow.
  • If the flow is from top to bottom, then the extreme edges of the filter should be like this - ////
  • If the flow is from bottom to top, then the extreme edges of the filter should be - ////
  • Air flows from right to left, the extreme edges should be like this -
  • Air flows from left to right, the extreme edges should be like this - >

In the Opel Astra N, air flows from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment. Based on this, as well as the inscriptions on the side plane of the air filter, we make the correct installation.

When to change, which interior to install

For scheduled repairs, there are regulations, as well as recommendations from the manufacturer. According to them, the cabin filter of the Opel Astra III H heating and air conditioning system should be replaced every 15 km or once a year.

Since the operating conditions of the car in most cases will be far from ideal, experts advise to carry out this operation twice as often - in spring and autumn.

Typical symptoms:

  1. windows often fog up;
  2. the appearance in the cabin of unpleasant odors when the fan is turned on;
  3. wear of the stove and air conditioner;

They can make you doubt that the filter element is doing its job, an unscheduled replacement will be required. In principle, it is these symptoms that should be relied upon when choosing the correct replacement interval.

Suitable sizes

When choosing a filter element, owners do not always use products recommended by the car manufacturer. Everyone has their own reasons for this, someone says that the original is excessively expensive. Someone in the region sells only analogues, so you need to know the sizes by which you can later make a choice:

  • Height: 30 mm
  • Width: 199 mm
  • Length: 302 mm

As a rule, sometimes analogues of the Opel Astra III H can be a few millimeters larger or smaller than the original, there is nothing to worry about. And if the difference is calculated in centimeters, then, of course, it is worth finding another option.

Choosing an original cabin filter

The manufacturer recommends using only original consumables, which, in general, is not surprising. By themselves, they are not of poor quality and are widely distributed in car dealerships, but their price may seem overpriced to many car owners.

Regardless of the configuration, the manufacturer recommends installing the following cabin filters on all third-generation Opel Astras (including the restyled version). Powder number 6808606 (Opel 68 08 606) or GM GM 13175553. And coal 6808607 (Opel 68 08 607) or GM GM 13175554.

It should be noted that consumables and other spare parts can sometimes be supplied to dealers under different article numbers. Which can sometimes confuse those who want to buy exactly the original product.

When choosing between a dustproof and carbon product, car owners are advised to use a carbon filter element. Such a filter is more expensive, but cleans the air much better.

It is easy to distinguish: the accordion filter paper is impregnated with a charcoal composition, due to which it has a dark gray color. The filter cleans the air stream from dust, fine dirt, germs, bacteria and improves lung protection.

Which analogues to choose

In addition to simple cabin filters, there are also carbon filters that filter the air more efficiently, but are more expensive. The advantage of SF carbon fiber is that it does not allow foreign odors coming from the road (street) to penetrate into the car interior.

But this filter element also has a drawback: air does not pass through it well. The GodWill and Corteco charcoal filters are of good quality and are a good replacement for the original.

However, at some points of sale, the price of the third-generation Opel Astra original cabin filter can be very high. In this case, it makes sense to buy non-original consumables. In particular, cabin filters are considered quite popular:

Conventional filters for dust collectors

  • MANN-FILTER CU3054 – technological consumables from a well-known manufacturer
  • BIG Filter GB-9879 - popular brand, good fine cleaning
  • TSN 9.7.75: a good manufacturer at a reasonable price

Charcoal cabin filters

  • MANN-FILTER CUK 3054: thick, high-quality carbon lining
  • BIG filter GB-9879/C - activated carbon
  • TSN 9.7.137 - normal quality, affordable price

It makes sense to look at the products of other companies; We also specialize in the production of high quality automotive consumables:

  • Amd
  • Forest
  • Dense
  • Filter
  • Fortech
  • J. S. Asakashi
  • Knecht-Male
  • Korteks
  • Masuma
  • Miles
  • Raf filter
  • Fct
  • Sakura
  • Stellox
  • Valeo
  • Zeckert
  • Nevsky filter

Dealers may recommend replacing the Astra III H cabin filter with cheap aftermarket replacements that are much thinner. They are not worth buying, as their filtering characteristics are unlikely to be up to par.
