How to replace the throttle return spring

Replacing a defective throttle return spring is essential for safe driving. This will require needle-nosed pliers and a little manual work.

On many vehicles, a mechanical throttle cable connects the accelerator pedal to the throttle. When the driver presses the accelerator pedal, the cable opens the throttle to allow more air into the engine. The throttle return spring closes the throttle when the driver releases the throttle.

A weak or defective throttle return spring will not allow the throttle to easily return to its original position. This can result in engine jerks and unintended acceleration.
