How to fill a diesel pump?

The diesel pump allows diesel fuel to reach your vehicle's injectors. Therefore, in the injection cycle, it is very important that combustion propels your vehicle. However, when replacing or emptying the diesel filter, the pump must be refilled. Here's how to prime a diesel pump!

Material:

  • Chiffon
  • Plastic container

🚘 Step 1: access to the diesel filter

How to fill a diesel pump?

La fuel pump Used to supply fuel for your vehicle from the tank to the engine. Hence, this is part injection scheme... It was originally in the engine; today and after generalization injectorsoften directly in the fuel tank.

Powered by an electrical system, the diesel pump is used to transfer fuel to the injection pump which then causes it to build up pressure before transferring it to the injectors, which can thus power the engine.

However, in advance, the fuel must pass through gas oil filter... This removes water or impurities present in diesel fuel that can damage the injectors. It is important to periodically change the diesel filter so as not to damage the injection system and, in particular, the injectors, which are very expensive to replace.

After bleeding or replacing the diesel filter that is in your engine, you must prime the diesel pump. Without this, it will no longer supply fuel to the filter and then to the injectors, and you will no longer be able to start your car.

The first step isengine access... To do this, open the hood of your car and remove the screws of the plastic engine cover, then remove it.

👨‍🔧 Step 2: Refill the fuel pump.

How to fill a diesel pump?

There are two options for refueling the fuel pump, depending on your vehicle:

  • Your car is equipped pear primer located on the supply hose near the diesel filter;
  • Your vehicle does not have a manual refueling pump lamp, but it does electric pump.

If you have a primer pear, start with unscrew the drain screw air from the diesel filter. A quarter of a turn is enough. Then place a rag or container under the drain screw. Then prime the diesel pump by pushing on the bulb until diesel comes out of the bleed screw without air bubbles.

In this case, tighten the bleed screw. Squeeze the primer bulb again until you feel resistance. Clean out any diesel fuel that may have remained in the engine.

If you do not have a refueling bulb, unscrew the bleed screw for the diesel filter to allow air to escape when refueling the diesel pump. One turn is enough. Then run the engine for a few seconds. Wait about ten seconds, then start over.

Repeat it initial cycle until the engine starts forever. You can then tighten the bleed screw as much as possible.

Warning: therefore, the procedure for starting the diesel pump depends on the vehicles. Sometimes all you have to do is reassemble the filter and turn the key without starting the engine. After that, the diesel pump will start and independently deny air. Then all you have to do is get started.

To be sure that the procedure is correct for your vehicle, consult its Automotive Technical Review (RTA).

🚗 Step 3. Make sure everything works fine

After completing the priming procedure for the fuel pump, be sure to tighten the bleed screw to avoid leakage. Thoroughly clean the engine of any traces of diesel fuel. Then you can replace the plastic engine cover and close the hood and then start.

Everything should work fine. If you've filled the fuel pump correctly, your car should start normally the first time.

Now you know how to prime a diesel pump. If after doing this you cannot start it as usual, it may be corrupted. In this case, take the car to the garage to check the cause of the malfunction and possibly replace the diesel pump.
