How to register a car in Oregon
Transitioning to a new state can be a daunting task. Most people don't realize how much work it takes to settle in a new place. If you are a new resident of Oregon, the first thing you should take care of is registering your vehicle. To avoid getting a late fee, you will have to register your car within 30 days of moving into the state. To register your vehicle, you will need to visit your local Oregon DMV. When visiting the DMV for this purpose, you will need to bring the following with you:
- Certificate of residence or permanent residence in Oregon
- Availability of vehicle insurance
- Fill out an application for ownership or registration
- Provide ownership of the vehicle or a certificate of origin from the manufacturer.
- Bring the form stating that the vehicle passed the emissions test.
- Do a VIN Check
- Take your odometer disclosure statement with you
When buying a car from an Oregon dealership, you can usually go through the registration process for you. If this is the case, you need to make sure you get all the documents due to the importance they play when trying to get a label.
The State of Oregon charges a fee for services related to vehicle registration. Below are the fees you may have to pay:
- The fee for all games is $77.
- Passenger cars cost $172 for a four-year registration and $86 for a two-year one.
- Motorcycles and mopeds cost $96 for a four-year registration and $48 for a two-year one.
- Hybrid vehicles can only be registered for two years at a cost of $43.
- Low speed vehicles can also only be registered for two years at a cost of $86.
