Moving to a new area comes with a lot of challenges that you will have to face in order to not get overwhelmed. Utah is one of the most popular states in the country thanks to its great weather and friendly people. When moving to this wonderful state, you will need to register your car in a timely manner. You will have 60 days from the time you move to Utah to register your car without worrying about paying a late fee. You will need to go to the Utah DMV to register your vehicle. Here are some of the things you will need to bring with you when trying to register your car:

  • Bring a completed Utah Vehicle Title Application.
  • Your current one is outside the state registration
  • Proof that you have passed the security check
  • Payment of fees associated with registering a car in Utah.

If you're a Utah resident who just bought a new car from a dealership, you don't have to worry about going through the registration process yourself. Usually the dealer can do this for you. You must make sure that you have received the documents from the registration, so that you can get a license plate.

A Utah resident who purchases a vehicle from a private seller must show the following items to the DMV in order to register the vehicle:

  • Signed title with your name on it
  • Utah issued driver's license
  • Proof that you have car insurance
  • Proof that you have passed the security check

Here are some of the fees you can expect to pay when registering a car:

  • A car under three years old - $150 for registration.
  • If the vehicle is between three and six years old - $110 for registration.
  • Vehicles six to nine years old - $80 per registration.
  • Cars nine to twelve years old - $50 per registration.
  • If the vehicle is twelve years old or older, $10 registration fee.

Every Utah-registered vehicle will be subject to a security check. Be sure to visit the Utah DMV website for more information.
