How much battery capacity did Tesla Model S vehicles have over the years? [LIST] • CARS

Tesla Model S hit the market in 2012. Since then, the manufacturer has modified the offer several times, introducing or recalling vehicles with different batteries. Here's an overview of the Model S's battery capacity and market launch date.

At the time of launch, Tesla offered three versions of the car: Model S 40, Model S 60 and Model S 85. These figures roughly corresponded to the battery capacity in kWh, and also allowed us to estimate the vehicle's range, given that each 20 kWh corresponds to approximately 100 kilometers of normal ride.

Here is a list of all models (battery capacity) with release and recall dates (removal 40 means the withdrawal of the model from the offer):

  • 40, 60 and 85 kWh (2012),
  • 40, 60 and 85 kWh (2013),
  • 60, 70, 85 and 90 kWh (2015),
  • 60, 70, 85 i 90 kWh (2016),
  • 60, 75, 90, 100 kWh (2017),
  • 75, 90, 100 kWh (2017).

The cheapest Tesla Model S 40 dropped out of the price lists a year later. Elon Musk said that the decision was made because orders for cars made up only 4% of the total.

The longest, a full five years, was the Tesla Model S 60, which only disappeared when the manufacturer decided to unify the offer and leave higher (= more expensive) capacities. For some time, the Model S 60 was actually a variant of the S 75, in which the manufacturer blocked the "extra" battery capacity - it could be unlocked by paying the appropriate fee.

The Model S 85 variant was sold for a slightly shorter period of time (four years) with the P85, P85+ and P85D releases. The "P" in the vehicle symbol stands for the more powerful rear axle engine (= Performance) and the "D" for all-wheel drive.

It is worth adding, What is the Difference Between Tesla Model S P85 + and P85... Well, the Tesla P85 + gets 21-inch rims as standard instead of the standard 19-inch and new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. The suspension has also undergone changes: it is lower and stiffer. According to user statements, the vehicle had a much higher driving stability.
