What additional functions can combined pliers have?

	In addition to being available in different sizes, combination pliers can have additional features that make them more versatile or more effective in certain jobs. Some combination pliers include more than one of these additional features. In addition, many multi-tools will include a pair of combination pliers along with other tools.
Thumb rests
	Many combination pliers have thumb rests on the handles. They are usually made of plastic and are part of the cover over the handles. These small guards are designed to prevent your hands from slipping off the handle when using pliers. They are especially relevant for insulated handles as they prevent the user's hands from touching any metal parts that can conduct electricity.
Handle return spring
	Some pliers have a spring between the handles. This ensures that the handles will return to the open position when pressure is removed from them. This makes it easier to use with one hand as they don't have to be manually opened. There are different designs of recoil springs, some are hidden inside the grips, while others are visible.
Lock function
	Some combination pliers have a button that can be used to close the jaws. This is done to protect the surface of the jaws and cutting blade when not in use.
Compound action
	Combination pliers with a compound mechanism can generate more output force for the same input force compared to standard pliers without the need to increase their size. They have two double levers instead of just one, increasing their mechanical advantage so they can be used with stronger materials.
High lever
	Combination pliers with a large leverage provide additional force compared to standard pliers of the same size. Large-lever pliers have a pivot point closer to the incisors. This means that the handles are lengthened and the force output of the cutters is increased.
Fish tape removers
	Fish Tape is also known as Traction Wire, Traction Tape, or Electrician's Snake. It is used by electricians to pull wires through conduits, heating ducts, and other long narrow spaces where flexible wires are difficult to run. Some combination pliers have an extra jaw built into one handle near the pivot point. This is designed to catch the fish tape when the handles are closed.
Nail pullers

Insulated handles
	Pliers intended for use near electrical current will have specially insulated handles. Sometimes insulated pliers are referred to as electrician's pliers or pliers, although pliers are usually heavier than other combination pliers.

	Some combination pliers can be used to trim small screws or bolts. They will have a special place where you can insert bolts up to a certain size in order to cut them. Wire strippers
	Combination pliers designed for use by electricians or installers sometimes include a wire stripper in one or more sizes. These are small, rounded wire cutters that cut through the plastic insulation around the wire to remove it without damaging the wire.
Deburring or deburring mechanisms
	Some combination pliers have serrations on the outside of the jaws so they can be used as a tool to expand the inside of cut pipes. They can be inserted into the pipe and used as a rounded file to deburr the inner edge.
Head offset
	To reach hard-to-reach places, there are combination pliers with curved or offset heads. They allow you to clearly see where the tips of the jaws are when the pliers are held straight ahead, while the straight handles can block your view.
Wrench
	Some types of combination pliers have a hex notch that allows them to be used with bolt and nut heads. The range of allowable bolt sizes will be limited and will be specified in the product specification.
