Drill bits are manufactured in metric sizes from 6mm to 25mm and inch widths ranging from 1/4″ to 1″.
Compared to other types of drill bits, drill bits can be considered quite long. The shortest drill bit commonly found is 200 mm (8 inches) long. The longest is 600mm, which is 24 inches or 2 feet! They can be easily used to drill into wall studs, stumps or thick pieces of wood.
Ground and ice drill bits are even larger. Medium chisels of this type are typically at least 150 mm (6 in) in diameter and 800 mm (31 in) long.
Like many other types of drill bits, drill bits are available in "short" form with an overall bit length of 100-120 mm (4-4¾ inches). These short bits are useful for drilling holes in tighter spaces, such as making holes in roof beams.
