What sizes of nut splitters are available?

	Nut splitters are sized according to the size of the nuts for which they are intended. This size can be specified as a size across nuts, in metric or imperial measurements, or as a bolt size.
What does apartment mean?
	Across faces (AF) for nuts and bolts is the distance between two opposite flat surfaces of the head of a nut or bolt. This distance can be measured either in imperial units (inches and fractions of inches) or in metric units (millimeters).
What sizes of nuts can be divided?
	Threaded nut splitters can be used with nut sizes from 4mm (5/32″) AF to 50mm (2″) AF. However, you will need several screw nut splitters to cover this size range, as a nut splitter designed to split a 4mm nut will only be able to split nuts up to 10mm.
	If you need to split a large range of sizes of nuts, it is best to purchase a set of nut splitters. They typically include four to five nut splitters covering all of the most common nut sizes.
How long are the nutcrackers?
	Along with the size of the nut that each nut cracker can crack, its length can also be specified. This is the distance from the outer edge of the frame to the end of the handle.
	It may be necessary to know this measurement as the length of the handle can sometimes prevent the nut splitter from reaching certain places if there are obstructions near the nut to be removed. In these circumstances, you may need to use a C-shaped nut cutter with an offset handle to get to the nut.
	Ring frame nut splitters are typically about 80 to 200 mm (3⅛”-8″) long, depending on the size of nuts they are intended for. C-frame nut splitters vary less in size, with most models being around 200 mm (8 inches) long.
How wide are the nutcrackers?
	The width of the nut splitter is measured at its widest point, which is usually the frame. Ring frame nut splitters are typically 30 to 80 mm (1¼”-3⅛”) wide, while C-frame nut splitters are about 50 mm (2″) wide. As with length, the width of a nut splitter can be a factor in whether it can be used in situations where the nut is in a tight space.
What size hydraulic nut splitters?
	Hydraulic nut splitters are designed to handle large nuts, meaning the smallest nuts they can be used with have an inside diameter of about 30 mm (1¼ inches). Like screw nut splitters, each hydraulic nut splitter can only split a certain range of nut sizes, so it may take several nuts to cover all the different sizes of nuts you need.
	Hydraulic nut splitters are available in sizes to split nuts up to 165 mm (6½ in.) in diameter. Manufacturers offer special custom sizes for large nuts, but these will obviously cost more.
