Smaller vs. Large Band Knives
SmallerWith smaller (3-6") knives you have more control and the ability to get into smaller gaps.
Smaller knives are typically used for laying tape, filling gaps, applying seam sealer, and decorative work. You can put in a little more effort with a smaller knife to make sure you actually fill in those screw holes and seams. If it looks a bit messy, don't worry, you'll be using a large knife to tidy it up!
MoreWith larger knives, you won't use as much force, but you'll be able to cover a larger area with more subtle strokes. Large knives are better for blending (blending) edges and distribution.
Both?Make sure you have at least a small and large duct tape knife, as you will need them for various drywall processes. It is also recommended to have a seam bath for easy access.
The handles of most tape knives are designed for large hands. Decorators with small hands may find working for long periods of time uncomfortable, so choose a knife that feels comfortable to hold. Remember, the more secure your grip, the more control you will have over your blade! |
