What types of sink keys are there?
Content
There are three main types of sink taps: 1. Fixed sink taps 2. Adjustable wrenches for the sink 3. Ring wrenches
Fixed basin taps | ||
Standard Fixed Sink KeyA fixed reservoir wrench is similar to a traditional wrench, except that its fixed jaws point outward, perpendicular to the shaft. This allows it to rotate on its vertical axis and can be used in much tighter spaces than a traditional wrench. Although you can use it both horizontally and vertically.
There are many different makes and models of fixed-basin wrenches. While they may vary in price, size, and color, they all do the same job of removing jam nuts and faucet connectors in tight spaces.
Ring spanners | ||
Standard box wrenchA standard box wrench usually consists of a reversible hex box wrench and a T-handle. It is called a box wrench because it wraps around the nut from all sides, as opposed to a traditional open end wrench.
Pool spanners can be purchased separately, without the T-handle (so you don't have dozens of spare handles).
Multifunctional ring wrench for the sinkThere are special box wrenches designed to remove rusted or corroded nuts. For information on how to use this tool, see How to use a box wrench for a sink.
Sink wrenches | ||
A key feature of adjustable sink wrenches is that they have swiveling jaws that allow them to open and close so they can be used with nuts and fittings of various sizes.
Standard adjustable sink wrenchA standard sink wrench consists of a long stem, a pair of jaws on one end, and a T-handle on the other end. The jaws of the adjustable pool wrench can be opened and closed, allowing them to be used for nuts of various sizes.
Replacement jawsOther types of swimming pool wrenches have sets of interchangeable jaws so they can be used with a wide variety of nut and fitting sizes.
Telescopic washbasin wrenchThis is a telescoping adjustable pool wrench that can be extended or retracted depending on how far you need the reach.
Bearhug Sink KeyThe Bearhug Sink Wrench is another type of sink wrench that comes with two different sized fixed jaws for use with 1/2" and 3/4" locknuts. They have a small screw in the jaws that can be adjusted to grip the flat surfaces of the nut to provide a tighter fit when turning. They also have a jaw clip that can be rotated to rest against the bottom of the nut to make it easier to find. |
