What types of Slater rippers are there?
There are two types of shale ripper:

Blades | |
| The blade of a single forged ripper usually has one hook on each side of the blade. This is known as English design. The second roofer's ripper usually has a blade with two hooks on either side of the blade. This is known as the German design. As a general rule, the more hooks on the blade, the more likely you are to hook the nail on the first try, saving you time. |
What type of slater ripper should I choose? | |
| It would be ideal to use both types of rippers before making a purchase decision so you know how each one feels in your hand. A second ripper can be useful if you want to keep your ripper blade or handle and simply replace them when one or the other wears out. It may cost you more, however, in spare parts. If you want to replace the whole ripper when the blade or handle wears out, buying a whole ripper is usually cheaper. |
