Which 10w40 oil to choose?

Every driver knows that engine oil is the most important element of a car's power unit. However, most people have serious problems choosing the right oil for their car. This is mainly due to the extensive offer of this type of product and their confusing descriptions, which can often be confusing for less experienced car enthusiasts. Due to the fact that one of the most popular types of oil is 10w40, in the next post we will focus on it and suggest which 10w40 oil to choose for your car.

What will you learn from this post?

  • What is 10w40 oil?
  • What should a good 10w40 oil look like?
  • What products do drivers most often choose?

Shortly speaking

There are many different types of engine oils available on the market, of which the 10w40 type is one of the most popular. It is worth familiarizing yourself with its parameters and choosing only proven and recommended products. This is the only way to ensure optimal operation of the drive unit in our car, and the problem of blurring engine parts will become a thing of the past.

Oil 10w40 - what is it?

The 10w40 oil label itself can be a little confusing, so it's worth focusing on what it really means. Fortunately, this is not difficult and is directly related to the characteristics of the oil, namely its viscosity and response to temperature changes. The number before the letter "w" (in this case 10) defines the so-called winter viscosity. The lower this number, the denser the oil becomes at lower temperatures, at which the engine will not start (the density of the oil increases in proportion to the temperature drop). On the other side the number after the letter "w" denotes high temperature viscosity (in this case 40, the other 3 classes are 30, 50 and 60). In this case, the higher the number, the higher will be the temperature at which the oil becomes dilute enough to lose some of its properties and fail to protect the engine. As a consequence, this will cause damage to the most important parts of the engine.

Many manufacturers and a wide offer - which 10w40 oil to choose?

According to a large number of consumers and mechanics, good quality 10w40 engine oil allows effectively reduce the friction of drive componentsmakes it easier to start the engine at low temperatures and even reduces fuel consumption. 10w40 oils are the most popular summer viscosity grade and are available on the market in the form of synthetic oils (for new / low-mileage cars), semi-synthetic (for high-mileage cars) and mineral (for heavily worn engines in cars older than ten or several decades.). Below we have provided an overview of the most popular 10w40 engine oils, some of which are outstanding. Excellent value for money and quality.
