What school reading is worth having at home?

Creating your own home reading library is a great idea to make learning Polish more efficient. The big advantage of this solution is constant and reliable access to the publications you need. Let's think about what to do to make reading the classics in the coming academic year easier, and certainly more enjoyable.

Why is it worth having school reading at home?

First of all - convenience. Even in the best-stocked school libraries, we usually do not find enough books for every student in a school. And driving and searching for a suitable copy (which, moreover, would not have been spoiled by previous generations of students) in local institutions does not make it much easier to get acquainted with the chosen name.

In addition, the bookshelf collection allows the student to read the books at their own pace at any time during the course. Who said that this title should be learned only after the teacher asks him "for a week"? Early reading of school textbooks allows you to calmly familiarize yourself with the required material, without feeling the constant pursuit of a deadline.

Your own copy of the chosen reading will also be of great help during the lesson itself. While reading, the student can, for example, constantly mark key passages or make short notes on the side. It will also make it easier to prepare later for important tests or exams - having a copy with your own notes and glosses makes it easier to quickly scan the book and update individual fragments. It will also be easier to replay the material of the selected era when you have all of them at your fingertips. After all, even the most detailed synopsis of the book will not replace the original source.

Own library from an early age

Finally, another important issue is that building a home library can be a great opportunity for a student to develop a passion for literature in a child. This is especially true for younger children - entering the school world is the perfect time to build your own real book collection with your child.

Buying new books can be a lot of fun for parents and children: among the titles required for school, it is also worth choosing books that will be read only for pleasure. We will do everything so that reading, and therefore the process of reading itself, is not associated by a young schoolchild only with doing homework, which means with a tedious duty. From the very beginning, it is worth shaping the feeling in the child that books are important, develop us, but also entertain.

Reading for elementary school. How to help a child learn?

In the list of compulsory reading for younger students, we can find sentences that we ourselves associate with childhood. Titles such as "Akademia Pana Kleksa", "Plastusniczy Diary" or "Ania z Zielony Wzgórze", despite many years on the neck, have aged remarkably well and are still a great pleasure to read. They also provide a great bridge between parent and child experiences. A good way to encourage younger students to read is to talk about the classics and discuss the topic together. The child learns what he likes to read, what he pays attention to and what elements are less attractive to him. A smart conversation can make the headline a little easier to read, which is also hard to understand. And we have another chance to instill in them a love of reading!

Looking at the school reading list from the perspective of an adult, we notice that we never had the opportunity to cover many titles - they were not included in the main curriculum when we went to school. In addition to the classics, we can find a lot of really good, contemporary children's literature, such as Lukasz Wierzbicki's Africa Kazika or Danuta Parlak's Mrs. Crow's Hat. It is also worth reading and discussing such points together. Thus, we ourselves will catch up with children's literature, and for a young schoolchild, acquaintance with reading will be a pleasant opportunity to spend time together.

Reading for high school and technical college. With processing or without?

When filling out a library of high school reading materials, it's worth reaching for books that will simply please their owner. Many students stereotypically assume that reading at school will be boring and difficult, which is often not true. Works like Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment or Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita are simply great literature, whether or not they are on the required reading list. This is one of those articles that you should read slowly, in your spare time - then it is easier to discover their value. Having these books at home, parents will be able to familiarize themselves with the materials – “The Doll” by Bolesław Prus, read from the point of view of an adult, can really surprise you.

There is also an important question - is it better for students to choose versions with or without development? For many years, special "school" editions have been available, supplemented, for example, with key marginal notes, action plans, summaries, etc. This depends on the nature of the student and the requirements of the teacher himself. It is worth remembering that the reading list includes works of extreme historical importance, but so rooted in their era that reading them can be difficult from today's point of view. In this case, the sketch will be of great help in getting to know, for example, the works of Shakespeare or Wyspiański's The Wedding. On the other hand, comments on the side are simply distracting for some readers. In this case, it is worth talking to the student and thinking about their preferences - the elaboration option can, for example, serve as a useful teaching aid during the lesson, but for reading it would be better to choose the classic edition.

When planning school purchases, it is also worth considering the new publications that the Department of Education has just added to the new reading list. Basically, these are books that teachers have not worked with before, so their availability in libraries (not just school ones) may be insufficient. In this way, we will avoid a frantic search for the chosen subject when the teacher asks it.
