What is the reverse function on a cordless impact driver?
All cordless impact wrenches have a reverse function that allows the chuck to rotate both forward and backward.
On most models, you can switch between forward and reverse by pressing the forward/reverse button on the side of the tool. This button is usually located on both sides of the tool (so it can be pressed with either index or thumb) and directly above the speed control trigger.
The direction in which you press the button to select reverse may vary depending on the make and model of your instrument. On some models of cordless impact wrenches, pressing the forward/reverse button to the center position locks the tool, preventing the chuck from rotating. This is also called a spindle lock. For more information, see the section: What is the spindle lock on a cordless impact driver?
When to use reverse | ||
Screw removalIf the screw has been tightened with a power tool, it may be difficult to remove it with a hand screwdriver. A cordless impact driver with a reverse function can be used for this purpose, but you must use the appropriate bit.
Reversing drillsWhen drilling holes, the bit can sometimes jam and simply pulling it out can cause damage. Switching the cordless impact driver to reverse means you can safely remove the drill in reverse. |
