In an ordinary driving school, as a rule, to obtain a category “B”, they offer to be trained in a front-wheel drive car with a manual transmission. Although an innovation has recently appeared that you can also learn on a car with an automatic transmission.

What to choose - a car with manual or automatic transmission?

The answer depends on what kind of car you plan to drive after obtaining a driver's license.

A manual transmission is much more complex than an automatic. The driver changes gears himself, he needs to constantly monitor the traffic situation, speedometer and crankshaft speed. You can only change gears with the clutch depressed. Gaining speed, you need to move from one first gear to the second, then to the third and so on - you cannot jump over the gears. With a sharp decrease in speed, you can skip gears, but you still need to squeeze the clutch.

In short, the MCP is a complex box and it takes some time to get familiar with it. However, there is one important plus:

• having thoroughly learned a manual transmission, you will easily drive both automatic and CVT.

It is worth noting that it is planned to make notes in the VU if a beginner learned to drive an automatic transmission, respectively, he will be prohibited from driving a car with a manual gearbox.

In addition, if you plan not just to drive your own car, but to get a job as a driver in some company, then it is still advisable to learn how to drive an MCP.

Front or rear wheel drive?

Driving schools teach you how to drive front-wheel drive cars. The goal of any driving school is to give the beginner the skills to drive in the city. Unfortunately, in conditions of speed limits and constant traffic jams, there is not much difference what kind of drive the car has. But this difference manifests itself in some other situations:

• rear-wheel drive shows the best dynamics during acceleration - there are practically no slips and wheel slip during a sharp start;
• when braking hard, a rear-wheel drive car slides the front part, and a front-wheel drive car slides the rear;
• on a slippery road, rear-wheel drive cars feel more confident, but this requires maximum concentration.

Of course, all these skills come with time, many even prefer to change over time to all-wheel drive jeeps, the management of which also carries its own difficulties. But all these differences in driving style and driving style become apparent only in emergency situations and at high speeds.

Foreign car or domestic car?

Experienced drivers remember the first time they got behind the wheel of a training VAZ 2101, M-412, or even a GAZ-53. In those days, there was not much choice, as a rule, it was already a battered car, where it was very difficult to get into gear, and the pedals either did not give in, or got stuck in the depressed position.

Now the choice is much wider, but if you have learned to drive a domestic car, you can feel the difference. Not without reason, many drivers say that they really saw the light when they moved from the “nine” to some Mercedes, VW, BMW or the same FIAT. In a word, it is much easier to transfer from a domestic Lada to a foreign car than vice versa.

It is also worth noting that the more modern Priors, Kalinas, Largus, in terms of their characteristics, are in no way inferior to budget foreign cars. (Of course, we are not talking about quality)

From all of the above, the conclusion suggests itself - if you want to become a real ace, then you do not need to be afraid of difficulties. If you just want to go to the city or out of town from time to time, then learn to drive the car that you like best.
