Which motorcycle luggage should you choose and why?

During the holidays and the sun, what better way to pamper yourself with a pleasant motorcycle ride or even a short stay ?! Whoever says riding a motorcycle must say luggage, at least what is needed. Duffy will advise you on the choice of luggage, from backpack to suitcase!

What is the storage room for everyday motorcycle use?

If you travel every day, you may prefer soft luggage to hard luggage.

backpack

A backpack can be a good choice for short trips. You will need to make sure it has a hip belt, chest belt, and large padded shoulder straps. Your backpack should fit your physique, it shouldn't be bigger than you! If you are riding a sports bike or a passenger, the bag will be much more exposed, so it shouldn't be too big. Tighten the strap adjustment so that it is as close to your body as possible, and remember to fasten the waist and chest straps to keep it in place.

Be careful with what you put in your backpack; if you fall, your back will take a direct hit. Therefore, remove the anti-theft devices and any hard, heavy or sharp objects from the bag.

Tank bag

The tank bag is very practical for everyday driving and allows you not to carry the weight of the bag on your back, feel more comfortable and have your belongings at hand. There are two types of tank bags: magnetic bags if your tank is made of metal, and bags that can be attached to a mat. As with a backpack, choose the size of the bag according to your dimensions so that it does not interfere with you while driving. The large capacity is especially suitable for long journeys when you have a lot of things.

Thigh or arm bag

If there are small tank bags, you can also just buy a small bag like the DMP Revolver. This type of bag is fixed on the hip or on the arm and allows you to simply have your wallet and documents close at hand, which is very convenient, for example, for collecting fares!

Select your luggage for the weekend by motorcycle

If you are a bit adventurous and not afraid of weekends or motorcycle vacations, you will need to adapt your luggage for the trip.

Soft luggage

In addition to the tank bag we just saw, you can also purchase the so-called saddle bags. There are different liters depending on what you want to put in it, and even bellows to increase the capacity. Your choice will mainly depend on the type of bag and the desired volume. Consider installing seatbag spacers or heat shields if the seatbag is too close to the exhaust pipe.

Hard luggage

More durable than flexible luggage, there are hard luggage with top cases and suitcases. The main advantage is the large capacity, which allows you to leave everything for several days with all your belongings without worries. In terms of capacity, if you want to fit 2 full face helmets, you will need a top case with a capacity of at least 46 liters, 50 liters for modular helmets, and 40 to 46 liters per suitcase.

Before setting off with a load, try to balance the weight of each suitcase so as not to interfere with your driving. Also note that with suitcases you are wider and the bike is heavier, the climbs can be tricky!

If you are purchasing a top case or suitcases, you will need a mounting bracket that fits both your motorcycle and your luggage.

Please note, if you only buy a support for the top case, and then want to add hard suitcases, you will have to buy a new support that is suitable to support the suitcases and the upper case!

Now you are ready for long walks without forgetting anything!
